Local racer takes King of the Track

Sixty-one-year-old Las Vegas drag racing veteran Bill Dudley was crowned the new King of the Track at The Strip in the Las Vegas Motor Speedway when he defeated Ty Ishibashi of Las Vegas at the NHRA King of the Track Pajama Party, which began July 10 at 8 p.m. and concluded at 3 a.m.
Dudley drove a 1986 Nissan while Ishibashi raced a 1967 Camaro.
Bryan King of Henderson, driving a 1988 Mustang, defeated Carl Cannavo of North Las Vegas and his dragster in the Jerry's Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series competition.
Boulder City's Nick Ariotti claimed Pro Honors in his 1971 Duster, defeating Scott Machael of Las Vegas who drove a 1963 Dodge.
Notching her first-ever drag racing win in the Street category was Henderson's Kristin Kaminski in her 1999 Dakota. Kaminski defeated John Irving of Boulder City, who fouled at the staring line. Irving drove a 2002 Camaro.
The Sport Compact trophy was won by Billy Fraker of Las Vegas, who beat Dudley in the final round. Fraker raced in his 1985 Toyota.
Las Vegan Kahea Woods, racing a 1995 Suzuki, bested fellow Las Vegan Leo Shaver and his 1987 Kawasaki for the motorcycle title.
The Dash for Darrell competition raised $1,385 for the Darrell Russell Memorial Fund. Racers donated a $20 entry fee to compete for prizes donated by Jeg's, Marie Callender's, Lamb Motorsports, car customizer Tom Daniel, Jerry Mock Motorsports and Rick Rosen Photography.
Top Fuel driver Russell, 35, died June 27 from injuries suffered in a crash during the Sears Craftsman Nationals at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill.
Jerry's Nugget Casino Reaction-Time Bonus Awards were won by Cannavo (Super Pro), Sam Rendon (Street), Machael (Pro), Shaver (Motorcycle) and Sandra Darby (Sport Compact).
