GOLF

Summerlin youth hits hole-in-one

Sam Dickey, 6, of Summerlin, fired a hole-in-one on the 18th hole in the second round of play at the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships at Presidio Hills in San Diego.

Dickey finished eighth in the 6-and-younger class firing a 198 in three rounds of play.

Aliante tourney aids young mothers

The eighth annual charity golf tournament to benefit the New Start Home for Unwed Mothers is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at Aliante Golf Club in North Las Vegas.

The registration fee of $100 per player and $400 per team includes door prizes and a banquet. Registration fees the day of the tournament are $150 per player and $600 per team. Those interested can call 242-9850.

BASKETBALL

Youth hoops team is 10th in nation

The NUFF SED 13-and-younger boys basketball team finished 10th out of 66 teams at the AAU National Boys Basketball Tournament in Memphis, Tenn., over the Fourth of July weekend.

It was the team's first appearance at Nationals. NUFF SED went 6-2 in the tourney with both losses by just two points.

Poly Nation squad planning tryouts

Poly Nation Basketball has scheduled tryouts for kids of all grade and skill levels. Anyone interested should call Coach Vico Nomaaea at 807-4681.

SOFTBALL

Fastpitch league sets registration

The Southern Nevada Fastpitch Association/Southwest's ASA fastpitch softball league has scheduled registration from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at the West Flamingo softball complex, just west of Jones Boulevard.

BASEBALL

Camp scheduled to start Saturday

Fall Baseball in Summerlin has scheduled its fifth annual Summer Baseball Camp at the Summerlin Trails fields starting Saturday at 8 a.m.

The camp is open to players ages 8-18 and runs until Aug. 14. The camp will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as Saturday mornings. The cost is $90 per player.

Players ages 13-18 may sign up for Fall Team play which runs until November. The camp is located near the Trails Community Center at 1910 Spring Gate Land in Summerlin, across the street from the Village Shopping Center, near the Summerlin Library.

Las Vegas Hawks looking for players

The Las Vegas Hawks 12-and-under club baseball team is looking for players for its fall season.

TENNIS

Group offering coaches clinic

The Nevada Tennis Association is offering a free high school coaches clinic and tennis players training camp.

The coaches clinic is slated for 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 11 at the UNLV Tennis Center. The players training camp will be instructed by USPTA/PTR certified pros and are intended to help coaches and players get ready for the upcoming tennis season.

Local camps to begin Monday

Nevada Tennis Association Camps are scheduled to start start Monday and are for beginners ages 7-12.

Cost is $10 and includes a racquet. Certified pros oversee each site. Participants are also eligible for Future Star tryouts which are scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 21 at UNLV.

Those selected will receive free group lessons once a week for four months. Locations are Bally's Tennis Club, Lorenzi Racquet Club, Sunset Park, Silvestri Junior High, Sierra Vista High School and Durango High School. To register call 792-8384.

AQUATICS

New center opens at Heinrich YMCA

The YMCA of Southern Nevada announced the opening of the newest outdoor aquatic center at the Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA. The brand new aquatic park includes a beach entry play area and wading pool, lap pool, three-story slide-splash pool, snack shop and locker rooms.

The outdoor pool offers a wide variety of aquatic programming including youth and adult swim lessons, synchronized swimming, private swim lessons, lifeguard training, water aerobics classes, adult/child CPR, Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification, competitive swim teams, parent/child classes and more.

The pool will be open throughout the summer during the following hours: Noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Vegas Virtue Cup to be held in August

The second Soccer Resort 8-on-8 Vegas Virtue Cup is scheduled for Aug. 27 and 28 in Summerlin. The tournament is open to men's, women's and coed teams.

Youth league sets Saturday signups

Registration for Nevada Youth Football League (NYFL) is now ongoing Saturdays from 10 a.m. until noon at the league office, 1651 S. Buffalo Drive (between Sahara Avenue and Decatur Boulevard).

Interested parties should bring an original copy of a birth certificate, a utility bill and a parent's drivers license. Registration fees for players ages 6 to 14 are $160 and for cheerleaders $75. Players need to be present for weigh-in.

League and skills clinic organized

Nation Volleyball has scheduled a middle school boys and girls volleyball league and a skills clinic for players in grades nine through 12.

BYU players to offer Canyon Camp

The Canyon Volleyball Camp, run by players from Brigham Young University, is scheduled for Shadow Ridge High School Monday through Aug. 6.

Blazers clinic set for August

The 12th annual Blazers Volleyball Clinic is scheduled for Aug. 11-14 at Durango High School. The camp is open to girls ages 11 to 17.

Summer camps set at Boyack's

Boyack's Dance Attack Summer Camp is scheduled from Thursday through Saturday in the Summerlin area.

The camp will feature professional instruction in hip-hop, jazz, ballet and more, with awards, a barbecue and a pool party included. Those who register before Friday will receive a free T-shirt.

Sports clinics set through August

Several Southern Nevada AAU youth sports clinics are scheduled each week, through Aug. 20, at Home Courts in Henderson. Players can choose from seven different sports each week -- baseball, boys and girls basketball, cheerleading, dance, softball, soccer and volleyball -- and each daily session is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The registration fee is $125 per player, with discounts for multiple weeks and multiple children, and includes a clinic T-shirt, an AAU membership and prizes and awards.

BOCCE

Summer league open to all ages

The city of Las Vegas is accepting registration for a summer bocce league, which is open to all ages and all skill levels.

Tarkanian Academy organizes camps

The Tarkanian Basketball Academy has scheduled several basketball camps in June, July and August, for ages 5 to 18.
