When completed, the pathway will serve as a small portion of a regional trail system linking North Las Vegas to the Las Vegas Wetlands Park and Lake Mead National Recreation Area in the east, and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in the west.

The city purchased the land for $33,000 from Joseph and Melinda Kennedy.

"At $3 or so a square foot, we'll take all we can get," Mayor Michael Montandon said.
