Wal-Mart and Sam's Club honored Safe Neighborhood Heroes throughout the Las Vegas area representing police, fire, rescue and EMS teams. In the state of Nevada, Wal-Mart donated $60,000 to safety professionals who work every day to keep the community a safe place to live, work and raise a family.
Local Safe Neighborhood Heroes grant recipients included:
City of Henderson Fire Department for youth fire prevention education, $5,250; City of Henderson Police Department for drunken driving educational awareness, , $3,000; City of Las Vegas to assist fire and burn victims, $1,500; City of Las Vegas Fire Department for fire safety education, equipment and training, , $4,000; City of North Las Vegas Fire Department for training and education, $250; City of North Las Vegas Police Department's gun buy-back program, $750; Clark County Fire Department for medical equipment, education and training, $10,750; Friends for Las Vegas Police K-9s for crime prevention and education, $2,250; Friends of Metro Search and Rescue for rescue and training equipment, $1,000; Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for public safety, education and equipment, $9,250; North Las Vegas K-9 teams for canine upkeep, $1,000.
