BASEBALL

Cadets holding two tryouts

The Las Vegas Cadets are holding open tryouts for their 10-and-under and 11-and-under 2005-2006 club baseball teams. The two teams will join the Las Vegas Cadet organization which currently consists of 12 and 14-year-old clubs. The teams are for youth interested in playing in competitive club baseball leagues and tournaments in town and out of state and are designed for the serious ball player who wants to play high school baseball.

Tryouts will take place Saturday and Aug. 20 at Acacia Park near the corner of Gibson Road and Interstate 215.

Traveling youth teams seeking players

The Las Vegas Hawks 14-and-under baseball club is looking for experienced players for its travel team. Players must be born between Aug. 1, 1991 and Aug. 1, 1993.

BASKETBALL

YMCA holding Hoops sleepover

The Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane, will be holding a youth basketball sleepover from 5:30 p.m. to 10 a.m. on Aug. 26-27. The overnight camp will help youth develop fundamental basketball skills such as dribbling, passing and shooting. The cost is $97 per youth.

Other activities include film breakdowns, indoor swim time and fun prizes and giveaways. Each youth will receive a free shirt. The sleepover includes dinner and breakfast.

Champs Youth Hoops Registration

Champs Youth Basketball is currently taking registration for its fall basketball league. The league is for boys and girls, grades 3 -12. Champs has leagues on both sides of town for all levels and abilities.

Prime Time leagues are for club teams and the more competitive players and Game Time leagues are for those seeking recreational competition.

All games are announced, half-time activities, and MVP's and Champs of The Game are selected for every game.

Champs director is Steve Boyack, head basketball coach at Cimarron-Memorial and the Champs Eastside/Henderson director is Rob Pisano, head coach at Silverado High School.

Cost is $110, if registered by Monday . Discounts to full teams.

Champs Youth seeking cheerleaders

Champs Youth Basketball is looking for girls age 5-14 to be a part of Champs Cheerleaders. Professional instruction will be provided in cheer, technique, dance, voice projection, precision, and more, while receiving actual cheer experience at games.

Cheerleaders will train at Boyack's Dance Attack with locations in Green Valley and the Northwest.
