Cadets holding two tryouts
The Las Vegas Cadets are holding open tryouts for their 10-and-under and 11-and-under 2005-2006 club baseball teams. The two teams will join the Las Vegas Cadet organization which currently consists of 12 and 14-year-old clubs. The teams are for youth interested in playing in competitive club baseball leagues and tournaments in town and out of state and are designed for the serious ball player who wants to play high school baseball.
Tryouts will take place Saturday and Aug. 20 at Acacia Park near the corner of Gibson Road and Interstate 215.

Traveling youth teams seeking players

BASKETBALL
YMCA holding Hoops sleepover
The Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane, will be holding a youth basketball sleepover from 5:30 p.m. to 10 a.m. on Aug. 26-27. The overnight camp will help youth develop fundamental basketball skills such as dribbling, passing and shooting. The cost is $97.
Other activities include film breakdowns, indoor swim time and fun prizes and giveaways. Each youth will receive a free shirt. The sleepover includes dinner and breakfast.

Champs Youth plans registration
Champs Youth Basketball is currently taking registration for its fall basketball league. The league is for boys and girls, grades 3 -12. Champs has leagues on both sides of town for all levels and abilities.
Prime Time leagues are for club teams and the more competitive players and Game Time leagues are for those seeking recreational competition. All games are announced, half-time activities, and MVP's and Champs of The Game are selected for every game.
Champs director is Steve Boyack, head basketball coach at Cimarron-Memorial and the Champs Eastside/Henderson director is Rob Pisano, head coach at Silverado High School.
Cost is $110, if registered by Monday . Discounts to full teams.

CHEERLEADING
Palms hosting LV Goddesses auditions
Auditions for the Arena Football League's Las Vegas Gladiators Goddesses for the 2006 season will be held Saturday at the Palms. The Lounge inside the Palms will host preliminary audition registration beginning at 8 a.m., with dancing beginning at 9 a.m. Finalists will be asked to return for final auditions at 10 p.m. on Tuesday .
Dancers will need to come dressed to perform with full makeup and hair, jazz shoes, shorts, bare midriffs and light colored fishnets or bare legs. All applicants will need to bring a headshot, resum and a valid photo ID. Applicants will be taught several routines for the preliminary audition and will be judged on dance ability, crowd appeal, showmanship, individual resum s and personality.

Futrell Financial holding tourney
Futrell Financial Management will be holding its first golf tournament on Sept. 21 at Silverstone Golf Course.
The tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start and costs $150 per player or $500 per foursome. Cost includes a shared cart, greens fees, complimentary course beverages, catered lunch and an awards banquet. There will be a silent auction, sign-in prizes, raffle and more.

TPC to hold event to support troops
In conjunction with the PGA Tour and the Tournament Players Club Network, TPC Summerlin along with TPC at The Canyons will host a multi-course fundraising event Friday in support of the national America Supports You program.
TPC at The Canyons will kick off the festivities with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start, which includes a continental breakfast. TPC Summerlin will then host a 2 p.m. shotgun start that features a barbecue lunch. Additionally, a host of special events and activities for the entire family will be announced.
The cost, $150 per person, covers either one or both rounds of golf. A number of sponsorship and donation opportunities are available.

LV Founders Shoot-Out scheduled for Aug. 22
The 2005 Las Vegas Founders Shoot-Out is scheduled for Aug. 22 at TPC Summerlin and will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas.
Entry into the tournament includes an invitation for a player and a guest to the Draw Party, which includes food, beverages and entertainment at the JW Marriott at 7 p.m. on Aug. 21, a continental breakfast on Aug. 22, a gift package and a round of play with a professional. A luncheon will be held following play.

HOCKEY
Las Vegas Ice Center offers free lessons
The Las Vegas Ice Center, 9295 W. Flamingo Road, in conjunction with the Las Vegas Outlaws Youth Hockey, is offering free lessons for those who would like to learn to play hockey. The lessons are open to beginning players ages 12 and under and will be held Saturdays from 12-12:45 p.m. There are two sessions left: Saturday and Aug. 20.
Equipment required for the lessons includes a helmet with a face mask, gloves and stick. Equipment recommended includes elbow pads, shin guards, hockey pants, shoulder pads and an athletic supporter. Skates are available for a $2 rental charge.

Henderson registration is now under way
The city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will be accepting drop-off registrations from Aug. 22-25 at the Sports Office, 298 Arroyo Grande Blvd. Registration is $40 per youth (boys and girls grades kindergarten through 10), $35 per youth per two siblings and $30 per youth with three or more siblings.
Player rating days will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Aug. 27 and from 6-7 p.m. on Aug. 29 at Russell Road Complex, 5901 E. Russell Road. For information, call 267-5700.

Las Vegas Blast holding tryouts

Southern Nevada Fastpitch Red Rock will be holding tryouts today from 6-7:30 p.m. at Doc Romeo Park, at Cheyenne Avenue and Buffalo Drive, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sport Chalet at 8825 W. Charleston Blvd.
Cost for all ages is $85. Bring a copy of child's birth certificate to verify age.

NASF Midnight Madness tourney set
The NASF will hold its Midnight Madness tournament in Mesquite on Sept. 10. There are men's and co-ed divisions, a four-game guarantee and a 60-minute time limit on all games. Games will start at 5 p.m.
The tourney registration fee is $295 per team. A $3,000 Mizuno Award Package will be distributed among the top four teams. There also will be a home run hitting contest which will cost $20 to enter. The winner of that will receive $500.
Discount rooms rates at the Oasis Casino and Hotel will be available for $39 per night.

SWIMMING
Spectators welcome at Pavilion swim meet
Spectators will be welcome to attend the All Star Swim Meet on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pavilion Center Pool.
Recreational youth swim teams from Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas, and several area private swim clubs have been invited to participate. Honors will be awarded in 50 swim events, including relays and individual races in various strokes. This family event is free to the public and participants. Swimmers ages 8 to 15 who wish to compete must preregister as a team by today through their swim team coordinator. The city of Las Vegas is sponsoring the event. Refreshments will be available for sale at the event. Spectators and participants are cautioned to bring no food or beverages, other than water in plastic containers, into the pool area.

TABLE TENNIS
Rec center to offer all levels of classes
The Downtown Recreation Center, 105 W. Basic Road in Henderson, will host table tennis classes for beginners and advanced players.
Beginner classes will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. on Mondays throughout August. Registration is $21 per person (ages 8 and up). Advanced classes will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays through Sept. 7. Registration is $25 per player (ages 18 and up).
