Sharpening business skills

Local duo specializes in improvement through better training

When business partners Doug Beckley and Lisa Nosz realized four years ago they had a knack for training employees and creating business success, they formed The Beckley Group with the intention to share their skills. Two years ago, the duo started customizing those skills and found their true niche in the business of, well, business.

Nosz, a Henderson area resident, and Beckley, who lives in Summerlin, first became partners nine years before starting The Beckley Group when they owned and operated several UPS stores. In 2001, Beckley began giving speeches and seminars about company development while Nosz continued to run the stores. They sold the stores one year ago to concentrate on developing their own business.

Beckley said when he and Nosz started the company they focused on public speaking engagements that addressed improving business through communication and teamwork.

"It evolved as we started to find greater demand for seminars given in-house," Beckley said. "Companies wanted team building and communications and behavioral change taught within the company rather than in public seminars."

About two years ago, The Beckley Group started to focus on providing customized seminars and training sessions for individual companies. The duo now provides clients with customized training and development programs, organizational development, targeted training workshops and seminars, business consulting and business and employee coaching.

Beckley and Nosz met 12 years ago when both were in banking. Before she started working for banks, Nosz was a district manager for Miller's Outpost and trained many of her employees. Nosz said while working at the bank, training employees was also a large part of her responsibilities and the experience helped prepare her for the coaching and training she now performs.

After graduating from college, Beckley worked in banking as a commercial lender. He and Nosz originally got involved with company development when they owned the UPS stores.

"Within our stores, we had to make our own staff grow," Beckley said. "Developing people, firing up our employees, developing their leadership skills. We were working on business planning and employee and leadership development in our stores, and we really saw that impact our revenues. We saw that those methods worked in our business and wondered if we could help other companies do the same."

So Beckley and Nosz started speaking publicly about business development methods, first with rotary clubs and then with companies and individuals.

"The workshops and consulting took off from there," Nosz said. "We both enjoy training. We feel very comfortable with it and we feel we have a lot to bring to the table. It's really nice to be able to go into what you enjoy. We're able to help other businesses achieve the same levels of success, and they end up with the same sort of successful employees we had."

Beckley said he feels the most important part of what The Beckley Group offers companies is a tailored plan to help them achieve their goals rather than a set speech or training seminar that is the same for every company.

"All of our training is custom-designed," Beckley said. "We sit down with company leaders and find out what they want, what they currently have, and then we tailor our training to their needs and circumstances."

The Beckley Group is headquartered at 2880 W. Sahara Ave. For more information, visit www.thebeckleygroup.com.
