PERFORMANCE

Latin singer to play River Mountain Park

Perla Batalla is scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. Friday at River Mountain Park as part of Henderson's Twilight in the Park series.

Originally gaining attention as a backup singer for Leonard Cohen and K.D. Lang, Batalla is now known for her own successful solo career built upon her Latin roots. Admission to the show is free. For more information, call 267-4055.

Love and All That Jazz to be focus of concert

Lisa Yvonne Ferraro will perform her Pure Love and All That Jazz concert at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Church of Religious Science, 1420 E. Harmon Ave. The cost is $15 for adults and $5 for children under 18.

City to host trip to San Diego Zoo

The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will host an excursion to the San Diego Zoo on June 4.

Registration, which must be received by May 27, is $95 per person and includes admission, a 35-minute guided bus tour, safari aerial tram ride and round-trip transportation.

Buses will depart for the trip at 1:30 a.m. from Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St., and at 2 a.m. from Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway. Buses will return to Henderson at approximately 1 a.m. on June 5. An adult must accompany children ages 3-12.

CCSN receives excellence awards

Three members of the Community College of Southern Nevada received awards of excellence at the fifth annual Nevada Community College Conference. Author and English professor H. Lee Barnes, international students director Anneli Adams and music program assistant Earl Somerville were singled out for presidential excellence awards. Barnes received the honor for teaching excellence and Adams for administrative excellence; Somerville was cited for his work as a classified staff member.

Midbar Kodesh ready for Summer Camp

Enrollment is now being taken for summer camp at the Early Childhood Center at Midbar Kodesh Temple. Students may enroll in any or all of the 11-week sessions that begin in mid-June.

Circus, Sports and Dance is the first session, which is a week short week of three days starting June 15. Full and three-day sessions are available for the rest of the summer and include Nutrition and Cooking, Israel, Tzedakah and Torah, Science and Tikkun Okam, Winter Comes To Camp and Sea Creatures/The Ocean. Field trips are planned during each session.

Camp hours are from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Child care is available. Midbar Kodesh members receive a 10 percent discount from the fees, which are $90 per week for three full days or $150 per session for five full days.

Church takes school 'under the Big Top'

Green Valley Presbyterian Church will hold Davey and Goliath's Circus Spectacular Vacation Bible School on June 13-17 for children in grades four and five. Crafts, games, snacks, stories and skits will be part of the event each night from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at 1798 Wigwam Parkway.

Guggenheim is offering family fun

Power wheelchairs available to seniors

Wishes on Wheels provides power electric wheelchairs to nonambulatory senior citizens (65 years old and up) usually at no out-of-pocket expense for those who qualify. No deposit is required.

The electric wheelchairs are provided to those who cannot walk and cannot self-propel a manual wheelchair in their home or independent living quarters and who meet the additional qualifications of the program. This service also may be available to the permanently disabled of any age.
