Family swim day set for 3 p.m. today

The city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will host Family Fun Inflatable Swim Day from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the Whitney Ranch Indoor Pool, 1575 Galleria Drive, and the Henderson Multigenerational Center Indoor Pool, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway.

Regular daily admission fees apply; ages 2 and under are free, ages 3-17 are admitted for $1, Ages 18 and up are admitted for $2, and seniors age 55 and up are admitted for $1.

The event is open to participants of all ages, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Patrons are welcome to bring inflatable pool toys to the event for an evening of swimming and relaxation, and plenty of inflatables also will be provided free of charge.

Rock band to perform during Terrible 400

The Henderson Convention and Visitors Bureau recently announced the rock band Seven Mary Three will perform a free concert on Dec 1 in downtown Henderson during Terrible 400 Desert Race Week, which starts Thursday and runs through Dec. 4. The concert will be one of the highlights throughout the four days of racing festivities planned to complement the conclusion of the Best in the Desert Race Series and Southern Nevada Off-Road Racing Enthusiasts race series. All events are free for spectators.

Sock drive to benefit homeless youth

The city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is hosting Socks for the Season, a sock drive to benefit the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth from Thursday through Dec. 23. New socks may be dropped in a specially designated sock box at Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday; and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing first-time services to the homeless children and adolescent population that is often overlooked by traditional homeless advocate groups.

PERFORMANCE

Singers invited to join holiday concert

The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society invites singers from the community to sing selections from "Messiah" and other Christmas favorites at the annual Christmas with the Musical Arts Society concert, set for 3 p.m. Dec. 18 in the Horn Theatre at CCSN's Cheyenne campus.

Rehearsals are currently being held Sunday evenings at UNLV's Alta Ham Fine Arts Building in the Beam Music Center, room 159.
