The North Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce honored local police, fire and military personnel who have gone above and beyond the call of duty at its annual Salute to Heroes ceremony on Sept. 29 at Texas Station.
Award recipients, chosen by their respective agencies, included:
The North Las Vegas Police Department's K-9 unit. The canine unit has been responsible for apprehending 96 felons since it was formed three year ago, police officials said.
Metropolitan Police Department officers Kerri Farley, Brian Iulu and Jason Henson, who rescued two children from a townhouse fire.
Clark County Fire Department heavy rescue team members John Steinbeck, Lindbergh Collymore and Marvin Robinson. The team helped rescue a construction worker who was buried in a trench. They had to dig the worker out by hand.

North Las Vegas Fire Department's engines 51 and 53 and rescue units 51 and 251, which responded to a May 19 vehicle fire and saved a person who was trapped in the burning vehicle.
The Nevada Highway Patrol's interagency criminal enforcement team, which this year accounted for over 130 felony drug arrests.
Silver State Helicopters' President Jerry Airola, who flew his helicopter into the disaster zone after Hurricane Katrina hit, making more than 80 food drops in the area.
