Performance on main street

Critically acclaimed children's entertainer Joanie Bartels is scheduled to perform at 2 p.m. Saturday at Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St. The performance is part of the city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department's Children's Series, which brings a variety of musical performances to city recreation centers.

The first female children's entertainer to earn a gold record from the Recording Industry Association of America, Bartels returns to Henderson with her positive lyrical messages, interactive performances and zany antics.

Bartels began her career as a children's entertainer in 1985 when she released "Lullaby Magic." Over the past 20 years, she has sold more than 3 million CDs and 100,000 videos and DVDs and her award-winning "Magic Series" has reached triple platinum status. She was named favorite female vocalist in a survey of new parents conducted by Child magazine and the American Association of Children's Entertainment.

Bartels continues to record music for children and their families on her new independent label, Purple Frog Records, with the release of "Put On Your Dancing Shoes" and "Dreamland."

Tickets are $8 for adults or $5 for youth and available at www.cityofhenderson.com/parks. For more information, call 267-4055.
