The Henderson Little League, in conjunction with the Hitters Challenge Association, is bringing a taste of Major League Baseball to Henderson. A private autograph session and a baseball clinic are part of the festivities planned for today and Thursday .
Among the players and former players scheduled to participate in the signing are Ken Griffey Jr., Ken Griffey Sr., Tony Perez, Dave Parker, Bill Madlock, and Dock Ellis. The purpose of the private signing is not only to raise money for the Henderson Little League, but to help the Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita victims as well.
Order forms are available from members of the Henderson Little League. Supporters can order autographs from the participating players by contacting Leonard Gainey at 564-5475 or Ron Jackson at 565-7087. Orders also can be made on the Internet at SigningsHotline.com later this week. Complete pricing by player as well as the items available are included on the order forms.
In addition to participating in the autograph order-taking program, fans also have the opportunity to win a free trip for two to the MLB 2006 All Star Game in Pittsburgh or a free trip for two to a MLB 2006 World Series Game. There is no purchase necessary to enter the drawings.

Las Vegas Hawks are seeking players
The 11-and-under Las Vegas Hawks are looking for baseball players to fill a few roster spots. The Hawks are a Little League-friendly traveling team that plays in tournaments in and out of Las Vegas.

TBA to hold Halloween Hardwood Classic
The Tarkanian Basketball Academy, 2730 S. Rancho Drive, will hold its Halloween Hardwood Classic from Friday to Sunday. The tournament is geared toward middle school club teams and preseason middle school teams.
Students entering grades 6-8 are eligible to participate. Students age 16 or older, regardless of grade, will not be allowed to participate. The cost per team is $350.
The Tarkanian Basketball Academy is now offering a TOTS program (Toddler Opportunities Through Sports and Fitness) for parents who would like to spend more time with their toddler or primary age child in a fun and stimulating environment.
TBA provides a safe and exciting place for toddlers and primary age children, which includes a state-of-the-art sports facility that houses an inflatable child's obstacle with a slide. TBA also has mini-obstacle courses that features balance, gymnastics apparatus and strength-building games and activities as well as art stations, mini-basketball hoops and other manipulatives to develop fine motor skills and coordination.
All TOTS programs are constructed and overseen by physical education specialists and certified teachers.

Falcon Tune-Up is coming up
Foothill Falcon Basketball will hold its annual Preseason Basketball Tune-Up camp from 5-8 p.m. on Nov. 7-9 in the Foothill High School gym, 800 College Drive. The camp is open to boys and girls entering grades 3-9.

UNLV Boxing Club wins Silver State title
The UNLV Boxing Club won the Silver State Boxing Title on Oct. 9 at Big Dog's Cafe & Casino, edging the club from the University of Nevada, Reno, 4-3, as the Fightin' Rebels won the 125-, 132-, 139- and 175-pound weight classes.
Earlier this year, the UNLV Boxing Club finished fourth as a team at the National Collegiate Boxing Association's championships March 31-April 2 at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., as 139-pounder Daniel Reese and 165-pounder Greg Murrell won championship belts.

Preps shine at O'Dea Championships
Coronado (freshmen girls), Vo-Tech (freshman boys) and Mojave (sophomore girls and boys) were all team winners at the 23rd annual Bud O'Dea Freshman-Sophomore Championships held at Lorenzi Park.
Cimarron-Memorial's Anesia Rich (17:03) was the freshman girls individual winner, Rancho's Pierre Flores (14:28) was the boys freshman winner, Clark's Leah Ballard (15:52) was the sophomore girls winner and Basic's Kourtney Campbell (13:43) was the sophomore boys winner on the 2.5-mile course.
Silverado, Foothill stay atop polls
Each week during the cross country season a panel of area coaches rank their top 10 boys and girls high school cross country teams. Nevada Track Stats (www.nvtrackstats.com) publishes the results of the vote weekly.
For the fifth week of the poll, Silverado was again the top ranked boys team (60 points), with Foothill (53), Shadow Ridge (48), Cimarron-Memorial (32), Coronado (30), Durango (29), Palo Verde (27), Basic (25), Vo-Tech (10) and Bonanza (9) rounding out the top 10 voting.
In the girls' rankings, Foothill (58) led the poll followed by Green Valley (53), Palo Verde (51), Cimarron (39), Centennial (34), Vo-Tech (21), Silverado (20), Las Vegas (20), Bishop Gorman (17) and 3A's Faith Lutheran (11).
Track stars awarded Yellow Jacket
Nevada Track Stats and Young Life have teamed up for a second year to present a weekly award known as the Yellow Jersey to Southern Nevada cross country athletes.
Winners for the fifth week were Pierre Flores of Rancho High School and Jacob Thornell of Bonanza High School for the boys and Anesia Rich and Tiffany Hutton, both from Cimarron-Memorial High School, on the girls side.

Mid-season auditions scheduled
Dance Xpress, a performance group for girls ages 4-16, will be holding its mid-season auditions from 12-1:30 p.m. on Nov. 5 at the UNLV McDermott Physical Education Building. Red Rock holding fencing open house
The Red Rock Training Center, 8665 W. Flamingo Road, Suite 117, will hold an open house fencing demonstration at 7:30 p.m. on Friday .
The demonstration will display the use of all three weapons: epee, sabre and foil and will include live demonstrations with each blade. The open house is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served afterward.
The Las Vegas Gladiators, in partnership with KVBC-TV, Channel 3's "Operation: Football," awarded C.J. Sedoris of Bishop Gorman High School the Gladiators' Ironman Award for the seventh week of the 2005 high school football season.
Sedoris, the Gaels quarterback, led Bishop Gorman to their most lopsided victory of the season, a 76-6 win over Spring Valley on Oct. 7. Sedoris finished the night with 229 passing yards and four touchdowns.
Sedoris also excels off the field, holding a 3.10 cumulative grade-point average.

Tae kwon do program comes to Agassi Club
The Andre Agassi Boys & Girls Club has partnered with the LAITF to offer Olympic sport tae kwon do training to local youth. Classes are now under way and are free of charge to Boys & Girls Club members. The program is offered as a community service and will be directed by former National Champions George Tapia and Todd Phillips.

Two programs offered in Summerlin
Las Vegas Indoor Soccer, 1400 N. Rampart Blvd. in Summerlin, is offering a Lil' Kickers Program -- indoor soccer for ages 18 months to 9 years -- and a basketball program -- indoor basketball for ages 3 1/2 to 14.
The year-round programs are an introduction to sports in a fun, safe and non-competitive way and focus on child development while exploring and improving soccer and basketball skills.
Free trials are offered at monthly open houses. The next open houses will be held from 3:45-5:45 p.m. on Nov. 9, and from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Nov. 13.
