The first day of school was made a little easier for Clark County School District teachers.

That's because Sprint donated school supplies to Clark County School District teachers through its Project Connect program.

Just days before school opened, teachers stopped by the Sprint location at 330 S. Valley View Blvd. to pick up a school supply bag valued at $95.

Christine Hobbs, a first-grade teacher at Steve Cozine Elementary, was happy to hear about the Sprint/Staples/Encyclopedia Britannica giveaway.

"I'm excited because teachers go out of pocket to buy school supplies," she said. "Anytime there's an offer to help, like this one, I'll take it."

The phone company teamed up with office supply store Staples and Encyclopedia Britannica to provide the gift bags to 3,500 CCSD teachers.

Each bag contained pens, pencils, three-ring notebooks, notebook paper, markers, folders and Encyclopedia Britannica Student Library CDs.

"Sprint values education and this is just one way we can show our support to the teachers in the Clark County School District," said Shonga Cambric-Williams, Sprint marketing manager.

The phone company partnered with Opportunity Village to assemble the bags.

Opportunity Village is a not-for-profit organization serving people in Southern Nevada with intellectual disabilities, helping them to be productive citizens.

Sprint's Project Connect is an on-going program, so residents can continue to donate old wireless phones to help raise funds for educational programs and future school supply projects.
