Billy Harvey and Dave Huffaker shot 65 and 64, respectively, to edge out the team of John Dodd and Nick Polonia by two strokes to win the 2005 Las Vegas Pro-Scratch Golf Tournament, held July 31-Aug. 1 at Angel Park Golf Course.

Teams comprised of one professional and one scratch amateur competed in a "one best ball of two" format for a total purse of more than $7,500 in cash for the professionals and over $4,500 in gift certificates for amateurs.

New to the event this year, competitors at Angel Park had the opportunity to qualify for the Callaway Pro-Scratch national finals.

"The event just gets better each year," said Kris Strauss, fellow competitor and director of marketing for OB Sports Golf Management. "We truly appreciate the support from our new partners, Suncoast and Golfweek. We are confident that this event will continue to build momentum and that next year's Pro-Scratch at Angel Park will be even better."

The win was made sweeter by the fact that Harvey and Huffaker finished the event in second place last year, two strokes behind winners Travis Long and David Daniels.

"We got the monkey off our backs," Harvey said. "Last year's second-place finish left a bad taste in our mouths. This year we made the birdies when we needed them, and we simply played solid golf both days."

Defending champions Daniels and Long, the latter of which will compete in this year's PGA Championship, finished in a tie for fourth place after shooting 70-63.

Finishing third in the event with a score of 68-64 was the team of Brian Leitgeb and Brock MacKenzie.

Three other teams tied Long and Daniels for fourth place: Todd Weiand and Guy Gedeon (67-66), Scott Gates and Larry Lujan (64-69), and Chris Paul and Steve Fine (68-65). The team of Joel Henderson and Brandon Loska took eighth place with a score of 67-67.

Forty-four teams competed for cash, gift certificates and skins throughout the two-day event. The first round was played on the Mountain Course at Angel Park while the second round took place on the Palm Course.

Following the first round of play, the top 15 teams that opted into the Horse Race received an opportunity to compete in a shoot-out on Angel Park's Cloud Nine Short Course. This fun-filled "event within the event" saw the team of Bryon Hayworth and Ken Clay take top honors.

Angel Park Golf Club is a 36-hole facility located in Summerlin. Its Mountain and Palm courses were designed by golfing legend Arnold Palmer.
