The Tarkanian Basketball Academy, 2730 S. Rancho Drive, will be holding a track break basketball day camp from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily for kids up to the fifth grade in its TBA Learning Center. Cost is $145 per week full-time, or $85 per week part-time.
The Las Vegas Gladiators of the Arena Football League will be holding open tryouts prior to the 2006 season.
The Gladiators are looking for players at all positions and each athlete will be required to participate in offensive and defensive drills. All participants will be required to sign a waiver and pay a $50, cash-only registration fee.
Players should dress in workout gear and have the appropriate shoes. Pads will not be worn.
The workout will consist of running the 40-yard dash, 20-yard short shuttle, a broad jump and an L-agility test. Players then will go through position drills and 1-on-1 drills, both offensively and defensively.
Registration for the open tryout will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday at Sam Boyd Stadium, 7000 E. Russell Road. The tryouts will begin at 10 a.m.
LVHS player Lomax named Ironman
The Las Vegas Gladiators and KVBC-TV News 3's "Operation: Football" have teamed up for a third straight year to name a high school football Ironman of the Week.
The second recipient of the award this season was Las Vegas High School senior running back Jamal Lomax, who rushed for 216 yards on 30 carries and scored three touchdowns in the Wildcats' 34-19 win over then top-ranked Bishop Gorman Sept. 2.
Lomax also excels off the field, carrying a 3.3 grade-point average.
GOLF
Sin City Golf Classic set for Monday
The Sin City Golf Classic will be held Monday at the Tuscany Country Club.
The event will include a best ball contest, an award for the best team score and hole-in-one contests with prizes ranging from a trip to The Masters to $10,000.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. with shotgun start tee off set for 8 a.m. Player registration is $150 or $500 for a team of four players.
The Siena Women's Golf Club, 10575 Siena Monte Ave., is holding a Rally for a Cure tournament on Monday. All proceeds will be donated to the local chapter of Rally for a Cure and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Besides the golf tournament and luncheon, the club will offer a silent auction and raffle, which will include items such as lessons from the Ken Venturi Golf Academy, a 20-inch television and a weekend getaway at the Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach, Calif.
The scramble will begin at 6:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast. Golfers will tee off in a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m., followed by a buffet luncheon and awards program.

Club seeks players ages 35 and up
Kilroy's Hockey Club, a club made up of players ages 35 and older, plays every Monday night at 7:15 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. at the Fiesta Rancho Ice Arena, 2400 N. Rancho Drive.
The club, which hopes to increase awareness of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, currently has four teams and is looking for qualified players to bring the total to six.

LVMS collecting Katrina donations
The Las Vegas Motor Speedway will be collecting money throughout September to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Speedway personnel and competitors will collect funds at every LVMS event. The money will then be turned over to the Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross. The money subsequently will be sent to Red Cross chapters in the Gulf Coast region.
Plans are still being finalized between the speedway and the Red Cross to arrange for the collection of donations during the Las Vegas Double Down featuring the NASCAR Craftsmen Truck Series and Champ Car World Series on Saturday.
Ride for Kids set for Oct. 9
The inaugural Las Vegas Ride for Kids, a motorcycle road ride that will benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, will take place at 7 a.m. on Oct. 9.
Registration costs $35 per motorcycle and will be held at Freddie Spencer's Riding School, 7055 Speedway Blvd., Suite E-106, at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The ride begins at 9 a.m., rain or shine, and will take participants through the scenic loop at Red Rock Canyon to the end point at Blue Diamond Park.
The Nevada Tennis Association will be conducting tennis classes for entry-level to intermediate players at 12 locations around the valley starting Monday . Classes will be offered for children and adults.
Racquets and balls will be provided at no charge. Each class meets once a week for six weeks and costs $50.

Walk 'n Roll for ALS set for Oct. 8
The annual Walk 'n Roll for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis will be held Oct. 8 at Police Memorial Park, 3250 Metro Academy Way.
On-site registration will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the walk. The event will feature a barbecue as well as a presentation of awards.
