Super Run revs up on Thursday

The annual Super Run Classic Car Show will be held Thursday through Sunday in the Water Street District of downtown Henderson. Now in its sixth year, the event is expected to attract more than 70,000 people.

Super Run will kick off with a Show & Shine competition at noon on Thursday at The District at Green Valley Ranch. The event will move downtown Friday, featuring a variety of concerts including a headline performance by Chubby Checker at an outdoor stage next to the Eldorado Casino.

Super Run 2005 is sponsored by the city of Henderson Redevelopment Agency, the Henderson Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Eldorado and Joker's Wild casinos. All proceeds benefit children's charities and nonprofit organizations in the area.

Public health fair set for Friday

HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Henderson will host a health fair from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday at 10301 Jeffreys St. The event will include health care screenings and information on community support services.

Buddy Walk to promote awareness

Individuals with Down syndrome, their friends and family and many other supporters will march in full force on Saturday for the Las Vegas Valley's 5th Buddy Walk, organized by the Down Syndrome Organization of Southern Nevada and the National Down Syndrome Society. The Buddy Walk celebrates National Down Syndrome Awareness Month and promotes the awareness and acceptance of the disease.

The walk will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday at Discovery Park in Henderson. The day of celebration will begin with a reading of the Proclamation of Down Syndrome Awareness Month, followed by a display of talent. The walkers will be able to stop along the path to visit with community vendors.

Funds raised through the Buddy Walk will support local membership, information and education programs. For more information, call 648-1990.

Center to host giant garage sale

The Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road, will host a giant garage sale from 7 a.m. until noon on Saturday. The event is sponsored by the city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department and admission is free.

Adults wishing to sell items may reserve a space for $10. Set-up for sellers begins at 5:30 a.m. in the parking lot.

Fall arts festival returns for third year

MonteLago Village at Lake Las Vegas will host the third annual Fall Fine Arts Festival and Wine Walk Saturday and Sunday. The festival will feature the work of over 75 artists from California, Arizona, Utah and Nevada.

Event times are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The wine walk will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call the events hot line at 564-4766.

RECREATION

Chicks & Flicks set for Friday

The city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will host Chicks & Flicks from 6 until 11 p.m. Friday. The event, described as a "night out with the girls," will begin at the Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway, where participants will meet before traveling to Lucille's at The District at Green Valley Ranch for a meal and then to a movie theater to watch a film.

Registration is $28 per person for ages 18 and up. Registration is required. For more information, call 267-5720.

Gardening event to provide answers

Acacia Demonstration Gardens, 50 Casa Del Fuego, will host Meet the Experts, a free event from 8 until 11 a.m. Saturday. The event will offer residents the opportunity to meet and speak with garden experts and have all of their questions answered.

The event will include demonstrations, hands-on activities and projects for young gardeners. Families are encouraged to attend.

Pool safety event set for Saturday

The city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will host a home pool safety workshop from 10 until 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Whitney Ranch Indoor Pool, 1575 C Galleria Drive. Participation costs $5 per person.

An American Red Cross water safety instructor will teach participants how to protect themselves and others in and around the water, along with basic emergency accident procedures.

Preserve to offer basics of birding

The Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, 2400 B Moser Drive, will host Birding 101 from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Monday. The free workshop is designed to introduce novices to the basics of bird watching, including the use of binoculars and spotting scopes, identification techniques and etiquette and ethics.

The event is sponsored by the city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. Registration is not required but participants are asked to call 267-4180 to confirm their attendance.

YOUTH

Teens to embark on limo scavenger hunt

The Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive in Henderson, will host a limo scavenger hunt for teens from 7 until 10:30 p.m. on Friday.

Ten teams of five teens each will ride around town in a limo hunting down clues and taking pictures as proof of discovery. The scavenger hunt is not a race; instead, points are accumulated based on the number of pictures taken. Prizes will be given to the first and second place teams.

The event is sponsored by the city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. Participation is $30 per person and includes a pizza party.
