Capturing Zion's majesty -- done

I don't know when I have enjoyed an outdoor article more than "Exploring Zion from above" (Summerlin South View, April 11).

My now-deceased husband and I moved to Las Vegas for the wonderful nature ventures. We visited Zion many, many times. I have taken that hike at least a dozen times, as one of our very favorites. I could close my eyes and visualize each part of it from your excellent, descriptive writing -- each rock to climb over, the smell of the pinyons, the dripping water and the ferns, and finally the magnificent view from the end of the trail.

We took friends from all over the world there when they visited us and delighted in watching them explore our favorite haunts.

Thank you for such expressive writing. Keep up the good work.

Flavor column scores a home run

I enjoyed your food column, "Finding the perfect dog in town" (Green Valley View, April 18), so much, as we are from Michigan where they have really high standards in the making of their Koegel hotdogs.

Anyway, we are 25-year transplants from there and have long carried frozen Koegel hotdogs on the airplane (you know the drill)!

Till one day at Costco, when I found Casper hotdogs! They are from California, and I told the check-out gal about them and she said she is from San Francisco and they are very well-known there. It says on the wrapper since 1934!

My family is in love with them and I buy them regularly. But we, too, do like the Hebrew National (hotdogs) at Costco. I think we will take a drive over to the Orleans and try the 75-cent hotdog.

Keep up the good columns.
