Musical Arts Society is seeking singers
The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society, now in its 44th season, invites singers throughout the valley to sing with the Musical Arts Chorus and Orchestra.
The society will prepare to perform Joseph Haydn's grand oratorio "The Seasons" in late October.
Rehearsals will begin in late August and will be held Sunday evenings from 6:30-9 p.m. in UNLV's Beam Music Center, room 159.
There are opening in all voice parts and newcomers are welcome. Membership is by audition.

Exchange program needs host families
Two nonprofit organizations, International Student Exchange and the STS Foundation, are searching for Las Vegas Valley host families to share homes with high school students traveling here from around the world.

Back-to-School Fun Day & Fair planned
The Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services will be hosting a free Back-to-School Fun Day & Fair on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Mirabelli Community Center, 6200 Hargrove Ave.
Families are invited to play educational games, enjoy face painting and storytelling. Participants can earn vouchers for school supplies with each game they play, while supplies last.
City Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian will distribute child identification kits and representatives from Safekey, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, Kids to Kids and Web on Wheels will be available to answer questions and distribute information.

Restaurant is hosting education supply drive
Sammy's Woodfired Pizza is teaming up with the Clark County School District School-Community Partnership Program to help underprivileged children by providing supplies they will need to begin the next school year. Sammy's will host a drive for back-to-school supplies through Aug. 15 at both locations at 6500 W. Sahara Ave. and 4300 E. Sunset Road. They will be collecting new, unwrapped supplies such as packages of pens and pencils, paper, backpacks, scissors, binders and markers.
Each person who brings in a donation valued at $5 or more will receive a certificate for a free Messy Sundae.

Ranch to offer a sandstone night hike
A Full Moon Sandstone Canyon Hike will be held Aug. 9 from 8 to 10 p.m. at the Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, 10 miles west of the Las Vegas Beltway on Charleston Boulevard. A park interpreter will guide the evening hike. Participants should meet at the tour gate 15 minutes before the hike begins.
The park entrance fee is $6 per vehicle. For more information, call 875-4141.
EXHIBITS
Atomic bomb artifacts will be displayed
The 61st anniversary of the attacks on Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Japan, are being commemorated with an exhibit running Saturday through Aug. 27 at the Atomic Testing Museum, 755 E. Flamingo Road.
The exhibit features artifacts, survivors' letters and poems, informational panels and video presentations.
Admission is free. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Call 794-5123 for more information.
Chinese artists' work to be shown at center
The city of Las Vegas Cultural Affairs Division presents "Across the Divide," an exhibition of works curated by artist and professor Yu Ji featuring Chinese artists who teach in American Universities.
The exhibit features a wide range of mediums and artistic styles, from figurative to conceptual and abstract, but share a core value of inspiration drawn from the Chinese cultural tradition as influenced by American experiences.
The exhibit runs through Sept. 3 at Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North.
Gallery hours are 11 a.m to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
