ACTIVITIES

First Friday, a monthly cultural open house and street festival held in the downtown Las Vegas Arts District, is held every first Friday of the month, from 6 to 10 p.m. Maps of the Arts District may be found at The Funk House, 1228 S. Casino Center Drive. They will also be available the evening of First Friday at S2Art, One East Charleston, or at The Red Rooster Antique Mall, 1109 Western Avenue. The City of Las Vegas will provide transportation via the City of Las Vegas Arts Bus, which makes stops at The Funk House, Arts Factory, Not Just Antiques Mart, Red Rooster and The Icehouse every half hour starting at 6 p.m. For more information, call 384-0092 or visit www.whirlygiglasvegas.org.

MUSIC

old time fiddlers holds acoustic music jams from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the first and third Saturdays of each month and from 6:30-8:30 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month to promote and perpetuate old time fiddle music. Acoustic fiddle, guitar, bass and mandolin players of all levels are invited to play. The Academy of Music Studio offers lessons in piano, drums, trumpet and voice. Classes are held seven days a week.

The Vegas Valley Legacy Band is open to musicians interested in playing the music of yesterday, today and tomorrow. The band is looking for musicians who play a concert band instrument. Rehearsals are held at Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. For information, or to inquire about booking a concert for your organization, call 362-3010.

Las Vegas Gamble-Aires Barbershop Harmony Chorus practices at 7 p.m. on Thursdays at Christ Lutheran Church, 111 S. Torrey Pines. Interested singers are sought for great music and wonderful fellowship. For more information, call Dick Millburn at 395-7593.
