SAFETY: Being fire wise
First responders show their skills at FireFest 2006

"Fire-wise, this has been a pretty good year," said Pat Vannozzi, deputy fire chief of the Clark County Fire Department's Station 81.

Even though Mount Charleston does not have any serious blazes to report for the year, Station 81 and Mount Charleston Fire/Rescue still sought to raise awareness about public safety through its yearly FireFest on Aug. 12 at the Mt. Charleston Hotel, Event and Conference Center.

Las Vegan named to Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Team

Jordan Muir's freshman year at Brigham Young University couldn't have gone any better.

The 19-year-old Cimarron-Memorial High School graduate, who attended the Mountain West Conference college on a partial scholarship, had a phenomenal year pitching for the Cougars, amassing a perfect 6-0 record with a 3.97 earned-run average and 57 strikeouts as BYU went 33-28 on the season.
