CULTURE

Local writers to host holiday book signing

Annie Lee & Friends will host a holiday book signing on Saturday from 12 to 5 p.m. at the Annie Lee Gallery, located at 4030 E. Post Road.

The event will feature the authors Angelique Daniels, who wrote "Epigphany"; Jill St. James, who wrote "God's Love"; Trish Geran. Who wrote "Beyond the Glimmering Lights"; and Darvina Joy Smith, who cowrote "The Joy of Annie Lee" with Lee.

The book "Shouting," Lee's first children's book for which she illustrated, will also be featured at the event.

Salvation Army seeks holiday fare for charity

The Salvation Army seeks donations of turkeys and hams for Christmas dinner for clients and the homeless at the Lied Dining Facility.

Individuals and organizations who are willing to donate can do so by calling Sue Markham at 399-3581, Ext. 405.

ENTERTAINMENT

Sin City Brewing to offer $1 beers

Sin City Brewing Co. in the Desert Passage at the Aladdin will celebrate its one-year anniversary by offering $1 beers from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Dec. 11.

The special applies to each of its four beers: Sin City Amber, Sin City Light, Sin City Stout and Sin City Weisse.

Players plan 'Grinch' performance at center

The Winchester Players will present "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod.

Tickets are $2 for children and $5 for adults, and can be purchased at the Winchester Cultural Center or by calling 455-7340.

Event to demonstrate how to make cocktails

Sushi Roku in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace will hold a cocktail and sushi soiree with its cocktail demonstration at 7 p.m. today.

The class is open to everyone regardless of experience for $50 per person. Attendees also will receive a $25 gift card to Innovative Dining Group.

Jeffrey Blake of Southern Wine & Spirits of Nevada will teach participants the techniques, tips and recipes used to create three of Sushi Roku's beverages.

Jazz quartet, vocalist to perform at library

The Las Vegas Jazz Society will continue its Rising Star series at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Whitney Library Concert Hall with a performance by jazz vocalist Mary Ellen Stambaugh with her quartet.

Tickets are $17 general admission, $12 for students and seniors, and $8 for Jazz Society and Guitar Society members. Tickets may be purchased at the door or by visiting www.vegasjazz.org.

Police to present preparation seminar

The Metropolitan Police Department will provide an informational seminar at 7 p.m. on Thursday for those interested in a career in law enforcement.

Topics will include the testing and hiring process, exam and fitness test preparation, what to expect at the police academy and fielding training.

RFK to appear at book signing

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will sign copies of his book "Crimes Against Nature" at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Stirling Club, 2827 Paradise Road.

Kennedy also will be the keynote speaker for the official unveiling of Nova Town & Sage Era Development, which will be built in Jean.

Tickets for the event are $350 per person or $3,500 for a table of 10, and can be purchased by visiting www.novatown.org. Proceeds from the event will benefit Nova Town & Sage Era Development's educational and environmental endeavors.

Group to tee off for charity organizations

St. Thomas Moore Catholic Community will hold its sixth annual golf tournament at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Legacy Golf Club, 130 Par Excellence Drive.

Tickets are $95 per person. Proceeds will benefit various charities, according to organizers.
