BASEBALL

Christmas Hitting Camp scheduled

The New York Yankees' Jason Giambi and some of his Major League Baseball friends are holding the Christmas Hitting Camp from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Dec. 19 and 20 at Giambi's Baseball Academy.

The cost for the camp is $200 per session.

BASKETBALL

Teams sought for adult leagues

The city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services invites adults ages 40 and older to participate in winter basketball leagues from 6 to 10 p.m. on Thursdays beginning Jan. 11 at the Dula Gymnasium, 441 E. Bonanza Road. The weekly leagues are designed for all skill levels.

The fee is $225, plus $25 for officials' fees, per team. Members must sign up as a team. A minimum of four teams with five to 12 players each is needed for the league to proceed.

Registration is open from Saturday through Jan. 5. Leagues will last eight weeks.

FENCING

Winter Weekend camp starts Dec. 16

The Fencing Academy of Nevada at the Las Vegas Sports Park, 1400 N. Rampart Blvd., Suite 101, will hold a three-day Winter Weekend fencing camp on Dec. 16-18.

The camp will be directed by fencing master Yves Auriol and assistant coach Susan Jennings in bladework and footwork drills, conditioning exercises and situational bouting.

FITNESS

City offers classes and activities

The city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services is accepting enrollment for dozens of classes and activities at its community centers and schools. Sports leagues, exercise classes, family events, after-school programs, educational workshops and leisure activities will be provided for all ages.

Registration for the six-week winter 2007 session starts Saturday for classes from Jan. 8 to Feb. 17.

Showgirlz to host informational meeting

The Las Vegas Showgirlz women's football team will have an informational meeting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday at 2850 S. Lindell Road, in the gym across the street from Mountain Top Church.

The meet-and-greet session will offer information about the upcoming offseason workout programs and dates of importance.

The team is looking for athletes of all backgrounds to participate.

GOLF

City's holiday tourney planned for Dec. 16

Golfers of all abilities ages 16 and older are invited to participate in the Holiday Golf Tournament scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Dec. 16 at the Las Vegas Golf Club, 4300 W. Washington Ave., sponsored by the city of Las Vegas Adaptive Recreation Division in cooperation with the Las Vegas Golf Club.

The event will offer a four-person scramble format with first,- second- and third-place winners receiving awards.

The entry fee is $60 per person and includes 18 holes, cart rental, range card and an awards luncheon.

SOFTBALL

World Series event set for Mesquite

NASF will hold its 10th annual men's and coed Softball World Series on Sunday and Monday in Mesquite.

The men's competition will have a D-E and Rec division.

Coed will feature an upper and lower division.

Both divisions will have a four-game guarantee format.

A $5,000 award package will be distributed to the top six ball clubs.

There also will be a $750 prize to the winner of the home run contest, open to all players.

Forty-six teams competed in last year's World Series event.

Association seeks wrestlers, coaches

The Las Vegas Wrestling Association of USA Wrestling is open for registration.

The association is signing up wrestlers ages 5-15.
