Splendor in the Glass a wine and beer tasting event featuring 65 wineries and breweries, will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Las Vegas Hilton. The event will include a jazz combo, a live wine auction and a silent auction.

Downtown bowling benefit coming up
Snell & Wilmer is hosting its third annual Bowl for Kids' Sake corporate bowl at 6 p.m. Thursday at Jillian's in Neonopolis.
Participating companies will create teams of five, and each team is asked to raise at least $500 in pledges.

Museum to exhibit minimalist work
The Las Vegas Art Museum, 9600 W. Sahara Ave., will be showing a Southern California Minimalism exhibit through March 31.
General admission is $6. Senior citizens get in for $5 and children with school ID for $3. Children under 12 are admitted free.
Charleston Heights Arts Center is showing artist Laura Kleger's photographs from her collection titled Home Front. The subject of the show is the social landscape, both public and private, in post Sept. 11 America.
The show will run through April 2 at 800 S. Brush St.
Admission is free. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The exhibition is presented by the Cultural Affairs Division of the city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services.

Rosemary's presents Centennial exhibit
As a year-end tribute to Las Vegas' Centennial celebration, Rosemary's Restaurant pays homage to Las Vegas with a group art exhibition entitled Desert Sites, featuring unique works by local artists Dennis Angel, Catherine Borg, Mark Brandvik, Sam Davis, Suzanne Hackett-Morgan and Mary Warner.

Spring Mountain Ranch to hold training
Spring Mountain Ranch State Park will begin training sessions for volunteer docents on Feb. 5. The training sessions will be held on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon at the ranch.
Docents volunteer their time to provide visitors with history about the ranch as well as to conduct guided tours of the historical areas. Docents staff the ranch house during hours of operation, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
They also may participate in the Super Summer Theatre season, the Living History program, Pioneer Living Day and the Sandstone Canyon hikes.
The minimum time commitment for a docent is four hours per month.

Easter Seals to host 5K run and 1 mile hop
Easter Seals Southern Nevada is having their first 5K run, and 1 mile Bunny Hop and Easter Egg Hunt, which the organization hopes to make an annual event, at 8 a.m. April 15 at the Desert Breeze Recreation Center, 8275 Spring Mountain Road.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Easter Seals, to provide services to aid children and adults with special needs in order to help them lead more independent lives.
Registration for the event will be $25, and sponsorships are still available.
The Center and Spiritual Cinema Network will present "The Indigo Evolution," a film that explores the concept of children who possess unique qualities including being strong-willed, creative, intuitive, independent, restless, bonding easily with animals and having a deep desire to help the world. The movie will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday at The Center, 6711 W. Alexander Road.
The city of Las Vegas municipal pool will host American Red Cross lifeguard training courses from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 20 through March 3.
The Aquatics Unit of the Department of Leisure Services' Recreation Division will be recruiting certified lifeguards to work at the city's pools this summer. Lifeguards must be 16 years old or older, have completed 40 hours of course work and pass a water skills test to meet certification requirements.

Phone books collected to raise money
The Recycle for Teachers program is collecting old phone books in an effort to help the environment and to help five local teachers pursue grants.
The following schools will be accepting phone books through Tuesday: Bailey Middle School, 2500 N. Hollywood Blvd.; Iverson Elementary School, 1575 S. Hollywood Blvd.; Hoggard Magnet School, 950 N. Tonopah Drive; Kahre Elementary School, 7887 W. Gowan Road; and Vanderburg Elementary School, 2040 Desert Shadow Trail in Henderson.
