The Redrock Little League will be holding sign-ups for spring season at Red Rock Baptist Church, 5500 Alta Ave. Sign-ups will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday; from 6-9 p.m. on Feb. 9; and from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Feb. 11.
Leagues and fees include (league age as of April 30): Bubba, ages 5-6: $40; Rookies, ages 7-8: $75; Minor/Major, ages 9-12: $100; Junior, ages 13-14: $110; Senior, ages 15-16: $110; Big League, ages 17-18: $175.
Managers, coaches and sponsors are always needed. Redrock Little League's boundaries are Interstate 15 to Ft. Apache Road/Rampart Boulevard and Sahara to Washington avenues.
Sign-ups for Legacy Little League will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pecos Legacy Park, on Pecos Road between Windmill and Wigwam parkways, on Saturday and Feb. 4 and 11. Registrations also will be held at the Galleria at Sunset mall, 1300 W. Sunset Road, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Boys and girls ages 5-15 are eligible to play. New players are required to bring copies of their birth certificates and proof of residence.
Fees are $90 for T-ball and $105 for all other divisions. Two-player families can sign up both players for $175 and families signing three or more players will be charged a total of $225.
Cheyenne Little League will be holding registrations for the spring season for children ages 5-15 at Bat-R-Up Batting Cages, 3040 Simmons St., No. 101, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday; and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 4.
Players should bring copies of their birth certificates and proof of residence. Fees begin at $95 per player for T-ball. There will be no fundraising fee.
The zone for Cheyenne Little League is north of Cheyenne Road, west of Interstate 15 and east of Decatur Boulevard.
Las Vegas Hawks hunting for players
The Las Vegas Hawks 11-and-under baseball team is looking for 10- and 11-year-old experienced club players to fill a few roster spots.

Findlay, Leavitt tournament champs
The YMCA of Southern Nevada hosted its holiday basketball invitational tournament Dec. 29-30 for Clark County junior high school students.
Eight teams competed in the boys division, with Findlay Junior High School defeating Faith Lutheran Junior High School in the championship game. Leavitt Junior High School won the girls division, where five teams competed. Tournament games were played at the Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA and the city of Las Vegas Durango Hills Community Center operated by the YMCA.
YMCA taking academy sign-ups
The Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane, is accepting sign-ups for Hoyas Basketball Academy. Headed by former UNLV and NBA players Robert Smith and Sam Smith, the academy focuses on everything from fundamentals to advanced game execution. Boys and girls between age 8 and 15 are welcome. Goddesses to hold Pom Girl tryouts
The Arena Football League's Las Vegas Gladiators dance team, the Gladiator Goddesses, will be holding tryouts for the Pom Girls from 7 to 10 p.m. today at the Sazio restaurant in The Orleans, 4500 W. Tropicana Ave.
The Goddesses created the newly formed dance spirit team to cheer on the Gladiators during home games at the Thomas & Mack Center. The team is looking for energetic dancers, cheerleaders and spirit girls, 18 years and older, to cheer from the stands and interact with fans in their seats at all eight Gladiators' home games in 2006. The Goddesses also will look to the Pom Girls for future recruits. In addition to game-day activities, the Pom Girls will participate in the Goddesses Power Dance Camp on April 2, which will culminate with an on-field performance during the halftime show at the game against the Los Angeles Avengers.

Church holding winter league registrations
Registrations for Christ the King's winter league dodgeball season will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the church, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Drive. Players must be high school age and older.

FENCING
Vegas Cup No. 1 foil results posted
The first fencing tournament of the 3rd annual Vegas Cup Youth Series was held in January at the Fencing Academy of Nevada. Vegas Cup No. 1 featured competition in foil for Youth 10, 12 and 14 age groups giving fencers the opportunity to gain tournament experience at the local level against beginner and intermediate fencers in preparation for local, regional, sectional and national level competitions.
Representatives from the four Las Vegas fencing clubs competed in the event. One fencer, Nik-Nik Ameli of the Fencing Academy of Nevada, is nationally ranked on the United States Fencing Association's point standings and two academy fencers, Ameli and James Stewart, are Junior Olympic qualifiers.
In Youth 10 foil, Sarah Tabat (Fencing Academy of Nevada) defeated Alexandra Keft (Fencing Academy of Nevada), 2-1 bouts (5 touch bouts) for first place.
In Youth 12 foil, Ameli defeated Amanda Marks (Red Rock Training Center), 2-0 bouts (5 touch bouts) for first place.
In Youth 14 foil, Ameli defeated Ja Manipon (Salle de Nord), 15-7 touches for first place.
Vegas Cup No. 2 featuring competition in epee and sabre will be held at the Red Rock Training Center.
Duel in the Desert on tap
The 14th annual Duel in the Desert 2006 Fencing Tournament will be held at the Riviera Resort and Casino, 2901 S. Las Vegas Blvd., Feb. 3-5.
Fencers from 24 states, Canada, Sweden and Germany will compete in men's and women's foil, epee and sabre events including veteran competitions on Sunday.
Saturday Night Fight features the 2005 men and women Duel in the Desert gold medalists facing off against the 2006 gold medalists. There will be raffles prizes, a cash bar as well as a surprise celebrity guest presenter.
Eleven members, including Susan Jennings representing the Fencing Academy of Nevada, will compete in the weekend event. Jennings is the 2005 Duel in the Desert gold medalist in women's foil.

Minker Complex has variety of options
The city of Las Vegas' Chuck Minker Sports Complex offers a variety of low-cost sports and fitness options.
Minker regularly offers basketball league play for youth, adults and adults over age 30, volleyball leagues for men and women, and shotokan and tae kwon do martial arts classes for ages 5 to adult.
The center is at 275 N. Mojave Road, at the southwest corner of Stewart Avenue and Mojave Road. It includes a full gymnasium, racquetball/wallyball courts, aerobics/dance studio, fitness/weight room, outdoor walk/jog path, lockers and showers.
The center is open from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekends.
The daily fee for nonmembers to use fitness facilities and attend aerobics classes is $3. Annual membership recently increased from $12 a month to $20 a month. Six months costs $85 and one year is $130.
Fitness facilities include stationary upright and recumbent bicycles, treadmills, StairMasters, upper body Ergo-meter, free weights, blood pressure check, sauna, showers and lockers. Members must be at least 14 years old.
Annual gym membership for unlimited basketball play is $3 per person (minimum age 8 years). Registrants ages 8-17 must have a parent or legal guardian accompany them.

Gorman's Murray is Oklahoma bound
Bishop Gorman High School running back DeMarco Murray unveiled his decision to attend the University of Oklahoma during NBC's telecast of the U.S. Army All-America Bowl held Jan. 7 in San Antonio. The 6-foot-1-inch, 185-pound Murray, who rushed for 1,947 yards and 27 touchdowns for the Gaels this fall, will join another Gorman graduate, linebacker Ryan Reynolds, in Norman next year. Reynolds also made his decision to attend Oklahoma during last year's All-America Bowl. Murray was ranked as the No. 9 running back in the country according to Scout.com.

Rock the Ranch ready to run again

Two tourneys on tap for February
Two junior tennis tournaments will be held in Las Vegas in February.
The first is the Nevada Tennis Association's Novice Tourney No. 2, to be played Feb. 9-12 at the Darling Tennis Center, 7901 W. Washington Ave. The entry fee is $27 for singles and $22 per doubles team. The entry fee includes a T-shirt, and all participants will get two matches.

Spring junior team tennis on horizon
The spring season of Junior Team Tennis starts the week of Feb. 6.
The league offers beginning to advanced players the chance to experience competitive play in a team format against other players of similar age and ability. Players are matched together in one of six divisions. Matches are played weekly and each match lasts about 90 minutes. League play will run eight to 10 weeks depending on the number of teams in each division.
The team registration deadline is Friday . Individuals can register for a team anytime during the season, but they must play at least two matches to be eligible to compete in the district playoffs.
Individuals can register for a team by calling the Nevada Tennis Association at 792-8384. Team captains must call the NTA to get a team number in order to register.
League fees are $15 per player. There will be a $10 late charge for any player who is added to a team after Friday .
The 12 & Under division will play from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays; the 14 & Under division will play from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.; and the 18 & Under division will play at 3 p.m. Wednesdays.
VOLLEYBALL
Teams sought for adult coed league
The city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services invites adults to participate in a new Friday night coed, intermediate volleyball league that begins Feb. 3 at the Dula Gymnasium, 441 E. Bonanza Road. The fee for participation in the league is $150 per team, and members must sign up as a team. A minimum of six teams, of six or more players each, is needed for the league to proceed. A maximum of 18 teams will be accepted.
Registration for the league is open through Feb. 2. The league will last approximately eight weeks with an additional week of playoffs. Players need to wear comfortable clothing and rubber-soled gym shoes. Volleyballs, nets and courts will be provided.

Duel in the Desert set for Feb. 3-4
The city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services invites boys and girls ages 4 to 14 years old to participate in the seventh annual Duel in the Desert wrestling tournament on Feb. 4 at the Doolittle Community Center gymnasium, 1950 North J St. Weigh-ins will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the center on Feb. 3. The folk- and collegiate-style events will begin at 9 a.m. on Feb. 4.
Youth will compete in divisions based on age and weight. Medals will be awarded for first, second and third place in each division. Participants must possess an American Athletic Union or USA Wrestling card to participate in this sanctioned event. The entry fee is $10 for Southern Nevada Youth Wrestling Association members and $15 for non-members. Spectators will enjoy free admission.
