Organizations looking for host families
Educational Merit Foundation (EMF) is seeking host families to provide food and lodging for one or two semesters starting in August. EMF high school students are between the ages of 15 and 18, speak English, have medical insurance, spending money for their personal expenses and expect to share their host family's daily life including household responsibilities.

Johnson plans anniversary event
Johnson Community School's 15th anniversary celebration for all ages will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the school, 340 Villa Monterey. Admission is $5 per person or $15 for a family of four.

Jazz and ice cream offered by KB Homes

Pavilion pool turns tropical on Saturday
The city of Las Vegas aquatics unit of the Department of Leisure Services will hold Hot Tropical Night from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Pavilion Center Pool, 101 S. Pavilion Center Drive.
The annual event will include dancing, swimming, games, a DJ and live entertainment with performances by Polynesian dancers and fire eaters.
Refreshments will be available for purchase. The event is open to all ages. Advance admission is $8 for adults, $5 for children under 14 or $20 for a family of four, or on the day of the event, $10 for adults, $7 for children or $25 for a family.

Sandcastles under construction at Becker
Becker Community School, 9110 Hillpointe Road, plans its annual sandcastle building contest and Movie in the Park for all ages starting at 6:30 p.m. July 28. After the sandcastle building will be family games. At 8:30 p.m., the movie "Madagascar" will be shown.
Participants are invited to bring buckets, shovels and family and friends to help. Snow cones and popcorn will be available for purchase.
Senior pageant set for Suncoast in August
The 21st annual Ms. Senior Nevada America pageant is slated for Aug. 28-30 at the Suncoast. The pageant is open to women who have reached the age of 60 or more. Contestants must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Nevada.
