NOEL COSTUMIER: Sewing history
Costume maker specializes in re-creating garments

Twenty years ago, Noel Payne's knowledge of sewing was so rudimentary, she laid her 2-year-old atop a bolt of cloth on the cutting table and told the store clerk, "I need that much fabric."

These days, Payne creates elegant costumes that conjure up the romantic image of Camelot. She specializes in historical garments. Her company is Noel Costumier (www.noelcostumier.com).

GENEROUS DRIVERS: Meals on faster wheels
Local racers happy to make birthday cake house calls

Local race car drivers Jace Meier, Dustin Ash and Travis Swalwell delivered birthday cakes to homebound seniors in Las Vegas on June 28 who are clients of Meals on Wheels, a service of Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada.

Meier, a 17-year-old native of Las Vegas now in his fourth season of competitive racing, spearheaded the program and hopes to make it an ongoing event.
