Sending the Marines a whole lot of hugs

The Hugs Project/Nevada and Grace Christian Academy and Mitchell Elementary of Boulder City joined forces to produce a special treat for wounded United States Marines.

In February, the Hugs Project organized a Valentine's Day party for Marines currently hospitalized or being treated at Balboa Naval Hospital Medical Center in San Diego.

The kids at Grace Christian Academy were so excited about the Valentine's Day party they decided it would be great to buy lunch for the brave Marines. So they held a jump-a-thon to raise money, and boy did they jump. They earned $500, enough to take 100 Marines out for a cheeseburger lunch.

On May 15, everyone got together to sign the gift certificate envelopes. In all, the event raised 600 Valentines, nine dozen Valentine's cookies, 120 bags of candy and power bars, plus the certificates.

While the Marines received a great lunch, the children learned a valuable lesson about sharing.
