BASKETBALL
ABA's Venom holding tryout on July 8
The new Las Vegas entry in the American Basketball Association, the Venom, will hold its first open tryout from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 8 at Christ the King Gymnasium, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Drive. The team is looking for talented, motivated and responsible players to fill out a 12-man roster.
Dan Savage, general manger of the new Las Vegas team, said he is eager to see what the tryout will produce.
"I am excited to see what kind of talent we have here on the West Coast," he said. "When we held our open tryouts in Boston two years ago, we found nine of our 12 players during a single tryout, most of whom played at D-1 schools in the area. But we also found some small town players that could flat out play at this level. This will be a super opportunity for the unsigned, unknown player to make a name for themselves."
Candidates must be 18 years of age and out of high school. Participation in the open tryouts may jeopardize a player's NCAA eligibility. If you have any question about NCAA eligibility, please consult with your coach.
Players should wear appropriate shoes and clothing and come ready to compete. Registration is required and all fees are non-refundable. The advance cost of the tryout is $75 and is due by July 4. The fee for walk-ins on July 8 is $100.
