BASEBALL

T-Ball registration now under way

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson will be holding T-Ball registration until March 24 or until the league is full.

The league is open to boys and girls ages 5-8. Participants must be in kindergarten or higher. Volunteers, volunteer coaches and umpires also are needed.

Registration is $40 per child, which includes uniform and club membership. The preseason tourney begins April 13. League play runs from April 18 through May 18 and will be followed by the postseason tournament on May 23.

Warriors seek club players

The LV Warriors Baseball Club is looking for players age 9 to 10 for competitive play.

The club is seeking aggressive players who love to play baseball and would like to be involved long-term in a club that plays local leagues and tournaments and some events in neighboring states. The Warriors are a Little League-friendly club.

BASKETBALL

Boys All-Region, Division teams out

The All-Sunrise Region boys team was unveiled last month and includes Hank Thorns (Valley), Heiden Ratner (Silverado), Tysson Poots (Coronado), Ariece Perkins (Rancho) and Terrence McGill (Rancho).

Valley junior Thorns was named the region's MVP, while his coach Brian Farnsworth earned Coach of the Year honors.

DaVell Jackson (Eldorado), Jason West (Desert Pines), Billy White (Green Valley), Bobby Watkins (Foothill) and Sean Chargualaf (Basic) were named to the second team.

The All-Northeast Division first team included McGill, Perkins, Thorns, Jackson and West with Alonzo Brandon (Valley), Deremy Geiger (Canyon Springs), Juan Pattillo (Canyon Springs), Martez Christian (Desert Pines) and Martel Odoms (Eldorado) making up the second team.

The All-Southeast Division first team included Ratner, Poots, White, Chargualaf and Watkins, with the second team including Cody Aughney (Green Valley), Terrence Stewart (Del Sol), Kevin Kreier (Foothill), Justice Nall (Foothill) and Joseph Foster (Silverado).

FOOTBALL

Coronado's Poots Southern Utah-bound

Coronado High School senior Tysson Poots signed a letter of intent to attend Southern Utah in Divison I-AA. Poots, a wide receiver for the Cougars, had 68 receptions for 1,304 yards last fall and also starred for Coronado's basketball team, where he averaged 19.2 points and 12.4 rebounds per game, the second-highest rebounding average of all players in Las Vegas.

SOCCER

Gaughan, Calderon receive awards

Bishop Gorman High School's Kelly Gaughan was named Nevada's Gatorade Player of the Year for the girls.

The senior midfielder/forward led the Gaels to the playoffs this winter and signed a letter of intent to attend Weber State University, where she will play for Big Sky Conference Soccer Coach of the Year Tim Crompton, a graduate of Weber State. The Wildcats went 14-4-2 last season, including a perfect 9-0-0 record at home.

Clark High School senior Luis Calderon won the boys Nevada Gatorade Player of the Year after leading the Chargers to a second-place finish in the Sunset Region playoffs. The midfielder scored seven goals and registered 20 assists on the season.

Club team seeks players to fill slots

A competitive Under 11 girls soccer team has a few openings. There are no club fees or monthly costs to participate. The team has finished at the top of its division for six consecutive seasons. For more information, call 241-1261.

SOFTBALL

New season set to start in Henderson

The new season of senior softball for the Henderson Parks Department will begin on April 10, and the league is looking for players age 40 and over.

The league has a 40-to-50 age division and a 50-and-over division. New players can e-mail the league at mgfslp@cox.net, or call 837-0216 or 683-7700. The league's Web site is at www.hendersonsoftball.com.

VOLLEYBALL

Men's leagues slated to start

A new men's advanced volleyball league will begin on March 29 at the Dula Gymnasium, 441 E. Bonanza Road.

The fee for participation is $100 per team, and members ages 16 and older must sign up as a team.

Registration will open Monday. A maximum of 12 teams of four or more players each will be accepted.

Each team will have four players on the court at a time. Game times will be at 6:30, 7:30 or 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.

The league will last about seven weeks. Players need to wear comfortable clothing and rubber-soled gym shoes. Volleyballs, nets and indoor courts will be provided.

The league is sponsored by the city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services.

Corporate Challenge Tune-up planned

The city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services invites volleyball teams with players ages 18 and older to participate in the Corporate Challenge Tune-up Volleyball League from 7 to 9 p.m. on Mondays, from Monday through April 24.

Team preregistration is required and is open through Friday. The cost is $25 per person, plus officials' fees.

Rubber-soled gym shoes are required; volleyballs and nets will be provided. Games will be played in the Brinley Middle School gym at 2480 Maverick St., and in the Gibson Middle School gym at 3900 W. Washington Ave.

The league is sponsored by Brinley and Gibson Community Schools, which provide supervised sports, recreation and leisure activities for youth and adults. For more information or to register, call 646-9046.
