Alex Nietrzeba is a junior at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., majoring in public relations, with a minor in advertising.
Alex graduated with honors as a Medallion Scholar from Bonanza High School.
Alex volunteers at Spokane fundraisers for the American Cancer Society and was a guest speaker at its national meeting.
He is the son of Ralph and Patricia Nietrzeba, both of Las Vegas.
Richard Delgado was selected as the February student of the month by the Summerlin Lions Club.
Richard is the son of Luis and Minerva Delgado of Las Vegas and is a senior at Cimarron-Memorial High School, where he has taken many honors classes.
He was freshman class treasurer, sophomore class president, senior class president and participated in varsity soccer, all at Cimarron-Memorial High School.
Richard is currently working on his Eagle Scout project for Boy Scouts, is preparing to go on a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and plans to later go on to college.
Kahre Elementary School, under the direction of Gifted and Talented Education teacher Gina Mason, came in first place in the Recycle for Teachers program sponsored by telephone book publisher R. H. Donnelley.
Kahre students, parents and staff recycled more than 11,000 telephone directories. The school will receive $3,000, and the other four schools invited to participate in the recycling drive will each receive $2,000.
The other four contestants in the January 2006 Recycle for Teachers competition were: Danita Britt, of Bailey Middle School; Kathy Grimes, of Iverson Elementary School; Debra Jacobs, of Hoggard Magnet School; and Tracey Tucker, of Vanderburg Elementary School.
