View welcomes announcements of recent achievements of Favorite Sons & Daughters who have graduated from local high schools. Achievements may run the gamut from earning a college degree to successfully climbing Mount Everest. Thomas Gage Jr., a senior at Centennial High School, competed in the All State Musician's Competition in Reno, March 30.

Thomas competed in the solo male vocalist part of the competition, singing a French song. He was chosen to be the tenor section leader for the all state honor choir, and for the second year in a row won the command performance top vocalist in Nevada.

Gage plays many instruments and is one of the worship leaders at his church.

He is president of the Centennial Chamber singers at his school.

Gage will graduate in June and hopes to become a high school choir teacher for the Clark County School District.

He is the son of Karen and Thomas Gage of Las Vegas.

Robert Mills, a freshman at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky., has been named Mid-South Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the week ending April 16.

Mills is a catcher for the university's baseball team, the Patriots.

During the week ending April 16, Mills (.396-6-35) went 8 for 19 (.421) with 11 runs batted in, seven runs scored, three doubles and two home runs. He had two four-RBI games and three multiple-hit games and contributed 10 runs batted in.

Mills graduated from Cheyenne High School last year, where he was named Class 4A Southern Nevada Player of the Year by local coaches.

He is the son of Robert and Teresa Mills of Las Vegas.

The American Legion Post 8 has given $1,000 scholarships to several Clark County High School students.

The areas judged were grade point average, work experience, leadership and awards.

The winners were Caitlyn O'Connor from Boulder City High School; Demetria Murphy from Valley High School; and Bryan Seastrand from Las Vegas High School.
