Palo Verde High School, 333 Pavilion Center Drive, will be conducting its annual basketball camps this summer.
The camps, open for boys and girls entering grades 2 through 9, will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from June 12-15 in the Palo Verde gym.
Individual skills will be emphasized, such as shooting, passing, dribbling and defense. The cost is $125, and each camper will receive a jersey and awards for competition. Team discounts will be given for five or more teammates.

Coach to teach young players
Bishop Gorman High School girls basketball coach Sheryl Krmpotich will be holding a basketball camp for boys and girls ages 4-18 at Christ the King Church, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Drive.
The camp is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. on June 8-9 and from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on June 10.

Blazer summer events to tip off in June
The 14th annual Blazer Basketball Camp will hold two sessions this summer at Durango's gym, 7100 W. Dewey Drive.
The sessions, open for boys and girls ages 8-16, will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 12-15 and June 19-22.
The cost is $125. Participants who sign up for both sessions pay $225.
The program will be run by Durango High School boys varsity coach Al La Rocque.
Campers will receive a T-shirt, a photo package, a personal evaluation and a Nike basketball, as well as training from Durango basketball staff, camp counselors and players.

Bonanza High School graduate Greg Clifford will be competing in the AIDS/LifeCycle 5 ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles from Sunday to June 10.

Boyack's to teach dance lessons

The Nevada Youth Football League announces registration for full contact football for the fall 2006 season.

When signing up, participants must have either a player ID card from the NYFL or their original birth certificates and parents' utility bills.
For the Youth Division, ages 6 through 14, registration costs $160, with payment in cash or money order.
Players must be present for weigh-in and accompanied by a parent. Practice starts the first week in August, with games running from September to mid-November.

Baby Carriage Open to aid young moms
The Courtney Children's Foundation is holding its second annual Baby Carriage Open on Saturday at Painted Desert Golf Club, 5555 Painted Mirage Road.
The event is a fundraiser to benefit young mothers and their infants with needs in care, nutrition and parenting skills in under-served areas of west and north Las Vegas.
The event will feature raffles, golfer gifts, trophies, a mystery guest and opportunities to acquire prizes, as well as the hole-in-one prize vehicle. The event is for all golfers, but is limited to 140 players.
The $125 entry fee includes breakfast and lunch, all fees and a cart, plus a goody bag. Play follows the two-person scramble. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m.

LACROSSE
League to sponsor free clinic in June
The Las Vegas Lacrosse League is sponsoring a free lacrosse clinic for boys and girls in grades 3 through 8.
The clinic, set for June 2-3 at Oxford Park in Summerlin, is intended for children who have never played the sport.
The clinic begins at 4 p.m. on Friday, with the first-day skills session running from 5 to 7 p.m.
The second skills session runs from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by a watermelon break and an exhibition game.
No pads are required or will be allowed and there will be no contact in the camp.
Participants should bring their own stick, be prepared to borrow one or purchase an entry-level stick and ball at the clinic for $30.
Instruction will be given on the basics -- throwing, catching, scooping, dodging and the rules.
A parental consent form will be required before participation.

LV Premier to hold tryouts
The Las Vegas Premier Soccer Club traveling competitive teams will be holding tryouts on Saturday at the Kellogg/Zaher Soccer Complex (Formerly Buffalo/Washington Soccer Complex) on field Nos. 6 and 7.
Boys under 11 through under 15 tryouts will be held from 8 to 10 a.m.
Girls under 11 through under 18 tryouts will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Tryouts for boys under 16 through under 18 will be in November after the high school season.

NASF Summer Slam on tap
The North American Sports Federation will host its fifth annual Nevada Summer Slam Softball tourney in Mesquite, Nev., on June 10.
There is a four-game guarantee, with prizes and awards being given to the top six teams. Mizuno Sports will be awarding bat bags, players' jackets and fielders' gloves to the tournament champions.
The Oasis Resort & Casino, located at 897 W. Mesquite Blvd. in Mesquite, is the host hotel and will offer a special $39 room rate for tourney participants.
In the men's upper division, the unlimited home run rule will be applied, while in the lower divisions of tourney play, which includes co-ed, there will be a five home run limit per game. Courtesy runners will be allowed in all divisions.

Youth invited to free Hershey's meet
Hershey's Track and Field Youth Program and the city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services invite Nevada boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 14 to participate in a free regional qualifying open track meet on June 7 at the Western High School track, 4601 W. Bonanza Road.
Registration will be held on site from 5 to 5:45 p.m., with the events beginning at 6 p.m.
Youth will compete in three age groups -- 9 to 10, 11 to 12 and 13 to 14, with age determined by the participant's age on Dec. 31, 2006. E
Events include the 50-, 100-, 200-, 400-, 800- and 1600-meter dashes, 4x100-meter relay, standing long jump and softball throw.
Within each age group, boys will compete with boys, and girls will compete with girls.
Each youth may enter up to three events; if three events are selected, at least one must be a field event -- long jump or softball throw.
Ribbons will be awarded for first-place finishes.
The 50-meter dash is open to ages 9 and 10 only.
The 800-meter run excludes ages 9 and 10, and the 1600-meter dash is open only to ages 13 and 14.
Times and distances will be compared with Northern Nevada, California, Hawaii, Utah and Arizona results to determine composition of the regional team.
Those selected as regional representatives will receive an all-expense paid trip to Hershey, Pa., to compete in the North American Final Meet, Aug. 3-6.
Additional wheelchair events will be offered to youth ages 9 to 14, including the 50-, 100- and 200-meter dashes and the 4x100-meter relay.
Ribbons will be awarded for first, second and third places in each wheelchair event.
Youth utilizing wheelchairs may enter two of the four track events, as well as the softball throw.
A copy of each participant's birth certificate must be submitted at registration as proof of age.
Shoe spikes and starting blocks will not be permitted at the event.
A relay team must register together, and if selected, must remain together to compete in the national finals.

Children's class offered at YMCA
Certified child yoga instructors are offering sessions for children ages 4 to 10.
Parental participation is welcome, but not required.
The exercise class is held from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Durango Hills Community Center YMCA, 3521 N. Durango Drive.
The YMCA yoga class is free to members and $3 per child for non-members.
