FOOTBALL

Sports Illustrated lauds Wildcats

The Aug. 28 issue of Sports Illustrated featured an article ranking its Top 20 teams in the U.S. and also included a feature by writer Jon Mahoney selecting the best teams in each state.

Mahoney chose the Las Vegas High Wildcats as the best overall team in the Silver State. The Wildcats are the reigning state champions and have gone 26-4 over the past two seasons.

The team also has played in the Sunrise Regional championship game for six straight years.

KICKBOXING

City offers class for teen beginners

Las Vegas is offering teen kickboxing for beginners ages 13 and over from 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Doolittle Community Center, 1950 N. J St.

The fee is $15 per month. Call 229-6374 for more information.

Web site releases top 10 team rankings

NevadaPrepReport.com released Top 10 team rankings in the state after the second week of the season.

The rankings, from one through 10, are: Cimarron-Memorial; Reed; Reno; McQueen; Palo Verde; Bishop Manogue; Cheyenne; Bishop Gorman; Sierra Vista; Mojave.

Vegas Grand Prix unveils Web site

Vegas Grand Prix now has a Web site with information about the three-day festival of speed and entertainment, including topics related to the Champ Car World Series.

SOFTBALL

Adult World Series set for weekend

The NASF 10th annual Adult Softball World Series will be held Saturday and Sunday at Desert Breeze Park, 8425 Spring Mountain Road and Cheyenne Sports Complex, 3500 E. Cheyenne Ave.

Co-ed games start at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Men's games will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The entry fee is $350. Call 289-2292 for more information.

TENNIS

Bally's event to benefit junior players

A portion of the proceeds from the Bally's Holiday Charity Tennis Classic will benefit junior tennis through the David Pate Junior Tennis Fund.

The tournament will be held Oct. 23-26 at Bally's for singles and mixed doubles and Oct. 26-29 for ladies and men's doubles. Finals will be played Oct. 29. The entry fee is $30 for singles and $50 for doubles and mixed. Call 967-4598 for more information.
