A discussion and reception with photographer Judy Natal is set for 6 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 2 at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North.
In her current exhibit "Neon Boneyard: Las Vegas A-Z," Natal incorporates signs from the Neon Museum to illustrate the English alphabet in large format photographs. The gallery talk is set to begin at 7 p.m.

Celebrated artists to be featured in exhibit
An exhibit of prominent works by famous artists is set for Thursday through Oct. 23 inside the Alamo/Goldfield Ballrooms at Sam's Town, 5111 Boulder Highway.
The free exhibit, titled "Famous Artists Show," will feature the work of several artists, including painters Robert Lyn Nelson and Jane Wooster Scott.

Band to put on concert at Cannery
A performance by The Ventures is set for 8 p.m. on Oct. 21 at The Club inside the Cannery, 2121 E. Craig Road.
The Ventures formed in 1959, and recorded the songs "Walk, Don't Run," 'Hawaii 5-0," Perfidia" and "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue."

Harry Potter flick to show at dusk
The North Las Vegas Parks & Recreation Department will present a showing of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" at dusk on Friday as part of its fifth annual Movie Madness Series.
The movie will be shown at Tom Williams School Park, 1844 Belmont St., and stars Emma Thompson, Gary Oldman and Alan Rickman. The film is based on the third book in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series.

Sculptures to offer artists' take on food
A 3-D exhibit featuring the work of three young artists is set to run through Nov. 10 at the Clark County Government Center Rotunda, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway.
Christopher Bauden, Daisey Contin and Richard Hesketh will exhibit sculptures and will be present for receptions from 6:30 to 9 p.m. during the next two First Friday festivals in the Las Vegas Arts District.
Bauden is a UNLV student and used latex house paint and stuffing from pillows to create pieces that take an ironic look at the food people eat and how it is presented.
Contin is a CCSN student and used high-density foam to create three works that were inspired by a dream. The largest piece stands at 8 feet tall.
Hesketh, also a UNLV student, uses ceramics to create large pieces that examine the tongue in amusing ways. One of his pieces is titled "Tongue Bone."
The Southern Nevada Bluegrass Music Society's 17th annual Logandale Bluegrass Festival is set for Friday through Sunday at the Clark County Fairgrounds.
Local, regional and national bands will perform during the three-day festival, in addition to music workshops, band scrambles and 24-hour jamming.
Tent camping and RV parking with electrical hookups will be available, as well as goods by food and arts and crafts vendors.

Halloween-themed race and run/walk set
The sixth annual Northern Exposure Haunted 10K Race and 2-Mile Family Run/Walk is set for 8 a.m. until noon on Oct. 28 at Seastrand Park, 6330 Camino Eldorado.
More than $3,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in the 10K run.
The event will culminate in a harvest festival and Halloween celebration at the park, featuring live music and entertainment, food and craft vendors and costume contests.
Entry fees are $30 for the 10K run and $25 for the 2-mile event. Proceeds from the race will benefit Speedway Children's Charity.
A display of seasculptures by artist N'Gabre is currently up at the West Las Vegas Arts Center's community gallery, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd.
The exhibit, titled "Seapeople ... Voices from the Deep PT#5 -- The Awakening," is a collection of assemblages created from natural and organic sea materials.
N'Gabre recently moved to Las Vegas, but worked on the project from summer 2001 until winter 2005 while living in Southern California.

Panel to discuss recycling at meeting
The next Southern Nevada Recycling Advisory Committee meeting is set for 9 to 11:45 a.m. on Oct. 24 in the ODC Training Room 3 at the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway.
The advisory committee was created by Clark County, the Southern Nevada Health District and the cities of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City and Mesquite, and aims to develop recommendations to increase recycling in Southern Nevada.

Performance to aid scholarship fund
A fundraising concert is set for 7:30 p.m. today in the Nicholas J. Horn Theatre on the Cheyenne Campus, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave.
The concert will raise funds for the CCSN/Joe Williams Music Scholarship Fund, which assists music students.
The 60-piece CCSN concert band will perform works by John Philip Sousa, Johann Sebastian Bach, Kenneth Alford and Norman Dello Joio.
The school's Chamber Chorale, College Singers and Jazz Singers also will perform, featuring pieces by Glenn McClure, Steve Foster and CCSN professor Mark Wherry. Tickets are $5. For more information, call 651-5483.
