America's Nuclear West, a series of photographs depicting western landscapes altered by human presence and politics, is on display until Dec. 12 at UNLV's Barrick Museum.
The free exhibit is part of the Nevada Arts Council's Nevada Touring Initiative.

Music group to open season with Hayden
The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society will kick off its 44th season at 3 p.m. on Sunday inside Artemus Ham Hall at UNLV.
The group will perform Joseph Hayden's oratorio "The Seasons" under the direction of Douglas R. Peterson.
The performance will feature a 70-voice chorus, a 35-piece orchestra and three guest soloists -- soprano Amy Cofield, tenor Michael Cochran and bass-baritone Neil Wilson.
Admission is $12 for adults and $10 for senior citizens, disabled individuals and military personnel. Students with ID are admitted free.

Brazilian to strum at open guitar series
Brazilian Carlos Barbosa-Lima will open the UNLV Performing Arts Center's Classical Guitar Series at 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the Doc Rando Recital Hall at UNLV.
Barbosa-Lima is known for his skills as a transcriber and arranger of a wide range of music for the guitar, including the works of Scarlatti, Debussy, Gershwin and Cole Porter.
Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center Box Office at 895-2787. Student rush tickets are $13 each and available one hour before each event, based on availability and with valid student ID. UNLV faculty and staff discounts also are available.
UNLV choirs to sing as one
The UNLV choral ensembles open the 2006-07 concert season with Make Us One at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Artemus Ham Hall at UNLV.
The ensembles include University Concert Singers and Chamber Chorale, under the direction of David Weiller; the Women's Chorus, directed by Jocelyn K. Jensen; the Varsity Men's Glee Club, directed by Eric Fleischer; and the University Children's Chorale, under the direction of Liz Goodman and Barbara Buer.
The Silverado High School Concert Choir will perform as guest artists at the concert.
Selections will include "Agnus Dei" by Morten Lauridsen, "Stomp Your Foot" by Aaron Copland, and a premiere performance of "Go, Lovely Rose" by Ohio-based composer Theodor Duda. The combined choirs will present "Hope for Resolution," joining European chant melody with a South African freedom song in the Zulu language.
Tickets are $6 and may be purchased from the UNLV Performing Arts Box Office at 895-2787. Admission is free to UNLV students with ID.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Construction continues on Pebble Road
The Clark County Water Reclamation District will continue working on an upgrade to the underground sewer equipment on Pebble Road through at least Jan. 1.
At least one eastbound lane and one westbound lane of Pebble Road will be closed from Topaz Street to South Eastern Avenue. The district said it recommends that drivers allow extra time to reach their destinations, or avoid the impacted areas.

School textbooks up for review
Proposed Clark County School District textbooks will be available to review from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the district's Curriculum and Professional Development Center, 3950 Pecos-McLeod.
The review is part of the Nevada textbook selection process and includes a chance to provide written comments regarding textbooks being recommended for use.
