The Crossing church addresses film

The Crossing Christian Church, 7950 W. Windmill Road, will present "One Good Reason to Believe in the Resurrection" on Sunday.

The service, which will be presented at 8:30, 10 and 11:30 a.m., is in response to the documentary "The Lost Tomb of Jesus."

Sewing guild plans all-night sew-a-thon

The Las Vegas Chapter of the American Sewing Guild will hold an all-night sew-a-thon beginning at 7:30 p.m. on April 13 at Hancock Fabrics, 9850 S. Maryland Parkway.

The event will feature sewing demonstrations and will offer the opportunity for people to bring in their unfinished products.

The event is free, but an RSVP is required. Call 263-9302 or 360-9491 by tomorrow to reserve a spot.

COMMUNITY CENTERS

Beat summer boredom at RecTrek

Mail-in registration begins Friday for Clark County Parks and Recreation's RecTrek summer camps.

RecTrek offers children ages 6 to 12 summer activities at eight recreation centers across the Las Vegas Valley.

Five-year-olds who have completed kindergarten also are accepted.

During RecTrek, children will participate in arts and crafts, special themed projects, sports, games, field trips, theater, movies and science projects.

RecTrek will run on weekdays June 11 through Aug. 24. The cost is $14 per day or $65 a week. There is a 50 percent discount on the third child if three children from one family are enrolled for a full week.

Performances offered by Winchester Players

The Winchester Players will present three performances in one at 7 p.m. on April 13 and at noon on April 14 during the annual Clark County Children's Festival.

All performances will be at Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive.

The child members will perform a kid-friendly adaptation of "Grease" and the new musical "Young Rascals." The adult members will perform "A Comedy About Juvenile Delinquents."

Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Winchester Cultural Center.

Teens get information on future goals

Teens who are looking to get information on higher education, goals and life after high school are invited to attend Whitney Recreation Center's Teen Conference from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on April 26.

The free event will take place at the Whitney Recreation campus, 5712 E. Missouri Ave.

Students and parents can attend 20-minute workshops and discussions with higher education and trade school representatives to learn how to plan for the future.

Representatives include CCSN, Consumer Credit Counseling, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors' Authority, the Academy of Healing Arts, Lincoln College of Technology and UNLV's Gear Up program.

Artwork explores desert landscape

The Quiet Places Art Space, 22 Water St., will display the photographs and watercolors of five local artists depicting desert landscape and native plants through April 17.

The Botanical Art Blooms show features the work of Gary Reese, Fred Sigman, Julie Draper, Roulla Karampetsou and Donald Davidson.

Quiet Places' hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on most weekdays. For more information, call 845-7420.

SCHOOL

Homework Hotline adds channel

Homework Hotline, which offers help to Clark County School District students for homework, has expanded to two channels on Cox Cable.

The hotline now is shown on Channel 96 in addition to Channel 111.

The move allows students who do not have expanded cable service to watch the hotline.

The live show airs Monday through Thursday from 4 to 5 p.m. Phone lines are operated by teachers and students and are open from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, September through June.

THE DISTRICT

The District announces April events

The District at Green Valley Ranch, 2240 Village Walk Way, will host several events throughout April.

For Easter, the Easter Bunny will be strolling throughout The District on Saturday with eggs, candy and balloons for the kids.

Tour the Southern hemisphere through wines with Auss-Some and Then Some on April 13 at The Green, part of UNLVino.

Tasters will sample wines from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Tickets are $50 and are available at unlvtickets.com, Whole Foods Market and local wine retailers.

The District will celebrate its anniversary with a weekend-long party on April 20-22. Events include live music, street entertainers, a carnival and outdoor movie screenings on Friday and Saturday evening.

The 2007 season for live music at The Courtyard stage begins on April 20 from 6 to 10 p.m. The Outdoor Picture Show movie series also begins on April 20 at dusk at The Green. Each Friday and Saturday night, a family-friendly movie will be offered.
