SPOTLIGHT ON: Elephant Bar
2270 VILLAGE WALK DRIVE, THE DISTRICT AT GREEN VALLEY RANCH, 361-7468.
There are more than 40 Elephant Bar restaurants throughout California, Arizona, Colorado, Missouri and elsewhere. There is only one in Nevada, but judging from its busy dining room, that soon could change.
The menu features Asian, Pacific Rim, tropical and regional favorites. It's an eclectic read that can immediately be seen in its appetizers featuring wok-fried chicken and lettuce wrap, artichoke dip, Vietnamese shrimp spring rolls, coconut shrimp skewers and potato skins. There is a homemade chicken noodle soup, Oriental chicken salad, Santa Fe barbecue chicken salad, Thai sweet and spicy chicken salad, and teriyaki chicken Caesar salad.
There is something for everyone: grilled smokehouse chicken sandwich, Miso-Yaki grilled salmon, Bangkok pad thai with shrimp and vegetables, crispy honey orange shrimp, kung pao chicken, stir-fried sesame chicken, Kona barbecue pork ribs, chicken and shrimp jambalaya, grilled beef tri-tip, hamburgers, turkey melt, French dip, Baja fish tacos, and chicken and mushroom fettuccine.
Large desserts are chocolate molten lava cake, giant cookie ice cream sandwich, mud pie and fudge walnut brownie. A kid's menu comes complete with an entrée, soft drink and ice cream sundae. Seniors can apply for a 20 percent VIP card. Elephant Bar is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. -- Jack Bulavsky
