Girls Night Out slated for May 2

The fifth annual Girls Night Out, hosted by Friends of the Shade Tree, will be from 5:45 to 9:45 p.m. on May 2 at Jet Nightclub inside the Mirage Hotel and Casino.

The event will be held in support of the Shade Tree Shelter for women and children and will feature food, cocktails, performers and silent auctions.

Sleep presentation to be offered Wednesday

Southern Hills Hospital will host "Sleep and You," a presentation by doctor John Wojick from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday. The class is free and includes lunch.

Reunion planned for Clark and Western

Clark High School and Western High School reunion organizers welcome alumni from the Class of 1967 to their 40th high school class reunion on June 15 and 16. Both schools are looking for their 1967 classmates.

New dad class slated for Thursday

UMC's Family Resource Center is offering its free Boot Camp for New Dads class from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. The class teaches dads of any experience level about what to expect with a new baby. The UMC Family Resource Center is located at 1120 Shadow Lane.

This class is free and open to all new or expectant dads, regardless of patient status at UMC. Dinner is provided.

CCSN to honor community leaders

The Community College of Southern Nevada will recognize community leaders at its annual Legacy of Achievement gala celebration on April 28. Recipients are selected based on the overall and lasting impact of their contributions.

Legacy honorees are James Cashman III, Manuel "Manny" Cortez, CCSN instructor Jim Jennings, retiring Nevada Public Radio general manager Lamar Marchese, the Buck Wong family and former sheriff Bill Young.

Salvation Army fashion show to be May 1

The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary will hold its 42nd annual luncheon and nearly new fashion show, May 1, in the Gold Coast in the Arizona Ballroom.

Clothing and jewelry will be available for sale starting at 10 a.m., followed by the luncheon at 12 p.m. and the fashion show. The Women's Auxiliary will use the proceeds to fund various Salvation Army programs, including the new Army chapel. The cost for the program is $35.

Health and Safety Day to be May 5

The Southern Highlands Safety & Security Committee is sponsoring the Second Family Health and Safety Day, on May 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Southern Highlands Corporate Center parking lot, 11411 Southern Highlands Parkway.

All Southern Highlands residents and their families are invited.

The event is designed to provide information to make residents' lives safer and more comfortable.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department will provide free retinal scanning for kids, and Bill Tullock, coordinator for the Neighborhood Watch Program, will be in attendance.

In addition, Nevada Child Seekers will offer free digital fingerprinting for children.
