BASKETBALL

Toros club to hold tryouts

The Las Vegas Toros Basketball Club will be holding tryouts for boys in third grade.

The Toros are led by Steve Boyack, head varsity basketball coach at Cimarron-Memorial High School. The team will play in local leagues and participate in regional and national tournaments.

Tryouts will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Cimarron-Memorial, 2301 N. Tenaya Way. For more information, call 871-1617.

Helldorado Shootout set at Silverstone

As part of the Helldorado Days 2007 celebration, a Golf Shootout is being held at Silverstone Golf Club on May 2. The tournament begins with registration at 6 a.m. followed by a 7:30 a.m. shotgun. A foursome is $500 or individual spots are available for $125 with proceeds benefiting UMC's Trauma Center and the Elks Youth Scholarship fund.

Durango YMCA to host Tiny Tots program

The Durango Hills YMCA, 3521 N. Durango Drive, will hold a Tiny Tots gymnastics session through May 19 on Saturdays from noon until 1 p.m. Children ages 3-5 are invited to participate to learn basic tumbling. Cost is $60. For more information, call 839-4907.

Itty Bitty soccer planned at YMCA

YMCA opens youth program

The Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane, is holding a new USTA tennis program, 36/60, for youth ages 4-7 from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturdays starting May 5 and running through June 2. Class sizes are limited to eight students and racquets are provided.

NTA starts classes for juniors and adults

The Nevada Tennis Association has started conducting classes for juniors and adults at various locations. The classes are for entry-level to intermediate players ages 5 and up. The fee is $50 per person for a six-week session.

Classes will be held at the following parks on the days listed: All American Park, Tuesdays; Angel Park, Mondays; Black Mountain Recreation Center, Tuesdays; Bruce Trent Park, Thursdays; Bunker Park, Wednesdays; Duck Creek Park, Mondays; Lone Mountain Park, Tuesdays; Morrell Park, Tuesdays; Mountain Ridge Park, Saturdays; Paul Meyer Park, Thursdays; Puccini Park, Mondays; and White Middle School, Saturdays.

VOLLEYBALL

YMCA hosting volleyball academy

The Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane, holds a volleyball academy for youth ages 10-18 each Friday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The cost for YMCA members is $46 or $60 for nonmembers.

The YMCA also holds a volleyball league the first Friday of every month from 5 until 9 p.m. The league includes 3-on-3, 4-on-4 and 6-on-6 play in various divisions. Cost is $30. For more information, call 877-9622.

WRESTLING

Durango YMCA to hold Saturday sessions

The Durango Hills YMCA, 3521 N. Durango Drive, will hold a wrestling session from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturdays through June 9 for children ages 6-9, and from 3 to 4 p.m. for children ages 10-13.

YMCA offers total athlete program

The Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane, offers a total athlete program for youth participating in any sport. Sessions are 4 1/2 hours per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, or Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
