Feeding furry friends
Resident bonds with squirrels at Pueblo Park

He's so attuned to animals that as a young man hiking in the Northwest wilderness, deer came within 5 feet of him.

One even got so close that he touched it. As a boy, he and his father fed chipmunks by hand. His mother had wild chickadees land on her finger to pluck seeds from her pursed lips.

Hiking: Happy trails
Blazing, cleaning paths is reward on working vacations

Tony Taylor likes to spend his vacations working.

He pitches tents, cooks meals, and does some heavy lifting with the American Hiking Society's volunteer vacations. Along with other volunteers, Taylor travels to parks around the country and helps build new trails or clean up existing trails.
