Las Vegas is known for having more than 300 days of sunshine a year -- which can be skin's worst enemy.

A trip to the newly-opened Revage Medical Spa, 1215 S. Fort Apache Road, Suit 145, can address those concerns, staffers there said. In fact, the business' name is derived from two words -- "reverse" and "age." Revage provides products and treatments designed to slow down the aging process.

"Most of us never learned in school that the skin is the largest organ of the body," said Steve Wark, who owns and operates Revage with his wife, Lisa. "We just cursed it when we had acne as teens."

The facility mixes skin care and medical technology to offer a number of services, including bio-identical hormone replacement using soy and yams, addressing age spots, permanent laser hair removal, acne photo-clearing and dermal fillers.

The staff is medically-based -- nurse practitioners, medical aestheticians, medical assistants, surgical assistants and registered nurses. The business operates under the direction of oncologist James Forsythe, who divides his time between Reno and Las Vegas.

The 1,900-square-foot facility uses the latest equipment, such as a camera that is meant to determine underlying skin damage that otherwise would not be visible.

"We offer the sterility and effectiveness of a physician's office with added spa details to make the experience one of comfort and a bit of pampering," said Lisa Wark.

The entryway curves and is set off by a wall of stone that sports a 12-foot-tall water feature. Patrons are pampered with padded sandals, a foot soak and herbal teas before their treatments begin. Each of the four treatment rooms includes a water fall, as the spa was designed to evoke a Zen-like feel and flow.

Revage Medical Spa had a soft opening on June 2. To mark its entry into the spa market, the business is offering physician-grade facials beginning at $70 and discounts on laser hair removal packages.

"But it seems like things have been in full swing since we opened," said Lisa Wark. "You're supposed to have a seasonal downswing with summer, but we haven't seen one."

Client Maile Austraw, 46, said she was so comfortable after her treatment, she left with the spa's sandals still on her feet.

"I went to Suzanne Somers' seminar when she was here," the local artist said. "I've been on fake hormones for nine years and was looking for an alternative. It's so nice to have a place to go where they help monitor you so you don't have to do it yourself."
