SPOTLIGHT ON: PROMENADE CAFÉ

Sometimes it pays to be over 50 years old. The Promenade Café, located inside the Rampart Casino, offers dinner specials from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday through Thursday. There is one requirement: you must show a Rampart Rewards Card. Not too much to ask considering the Sizzling Senior dinner specials are just $4.99. They include choice of chicken noodle or tomato basil soup or salad, along with the daily specials and a piece of pie (call ahead and ask what specials are being offered that day). For those who start the day early, there is The Early Risers Club, available Monday through Friday from 5 to 8 a.m. Several featured breakfasts (only $1.99) are two eggs any style, hash browns, toast and coffee; short stack of pancakes; two-egg omelet with two items of your choice, toast and coffee; and oatmeal or cream of wheat with bananas, raisins, brown sugar, and coffee. For everyone else, the regular coffee shop menu features appetizers, salads, deli-style hot and cold sandwiches, specialty salads, gourmet hamburgers, pasta dishes, health-conscious chicken dishes, and many traditional items, including meatloaf. For breakfast, there are quick and simple continental breakfasts, as well as various omelets. Other specialties include sirloin steaks, filet mignon, Thai spring rolls, crab cakes, and an extensive dessert selection. The Promenade Café is open daily, 24 hours a day. -- Jack Bulavsky
