On Nov. 28, administrators from Hayes Elementary School, 9620 W. Twain Ave., recognized students who exemplified positive character traits during the first trimester of the school year at an Academy Awards-style ceremony. Top, Principal Scott Bailey presents an award to Samson Tesserna, left, during the morning event. Below, Bailey hands an award to Hunter McNair. The assemblies began with a choir performance, then nominated students, known as Super Heroes, walked forward on a red carpet under the cover of a spotlight to receive their awards, which were delivered by the tuxedo-clad principal and assistant principal. Students then signed Hollywood stars, which will be posted on a bulletin board. photos by marlene karas/view
