SPOTLIGHT ON: SAMURAI SAM'S
10300 W. CHARLESTON BLVD., 243-3111
There's a new kid on the block when it comes to fast food, and its name is teriyaki bowl. Well, maybe not that new, but these bowls of grilled chicken, steak and wok-stirred veggies are more healthy and are also a lean alternative to other, better-known fast foods. The bowls at Samurai Sam's Teriyaki Grill are served with white or brown rice and Sam's famous teriyaki sauce. Other bowls include Yaki Soba bowls made with vegetables, wok-stirred noodles, and a choice of chicken or steak; Sumo made with steak, chicken, veggies and rice; low carb featuring white chicken, veggies and sauce on the side; spicy beef and broccoli; and sweet and sour with chicken, green pepper, pineapple, rice and Sam's sweet and sour sauce. More traditional teriyaki wraps (whole wheat) come with a choice of chicken or all-white chicken, steak, vegetarian or combo and are served with rice and vegetables. And in keeping with healthy alternatives, the signature egg rolls are grilled. Two popular marinated chicken salads are Sesame Garden (all-white chicken, sliced cucumber, snap peas, fresh julienne carrots, Yaki Soba noodles); and Oriental chicken (all-white chicken, cucumbers, wonton strips, fresh lettuce blend, oriental or ginger dressing). Samurai Sam's is open Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. -- Jack Bulavsky
