Brian J. Puchalsky, 27, has passed the New York state bar exam.

He graduated from Columbia Law School in May with a juris doctor degree. He was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar from 2004 to 2006 and a James Kent Scholar from 2006 to 2007.

Puchalsky, son of Julianne Puchalsky-Szabo and Ronald Puchalsky of Las Vegas, attended Durango High School and the University of Nevada, Reno.

He currently is working at a federal district court clerkship in the eastern district of Pennsylvania.

Jennifer Marie Mercadante, 23, graduated magna cum laude from UNLV Dec. 21 with a bachelor of science degree in earth science and a minor in biology.

Mercadante's college achievements include: UNLV first-year student academic recognition, UNLV Student Development Center honors recognition, dean's honor list throughout college, national dean's list, national honor roll and national honor society, and the Anne Wyman Outstanding Mineralogist Award.

Mercadante, daughter of Joe and Pattie Mercadante of Las Vegas, graduated from Cimarron-Memorial High School in 2002 with a GPA of 4.375. She maintained a 4.0 or higher GPA throughout high school and was a high honor graduate, as well as the recipient of the academic letter Lamp and Torch.
