She is an American icon whose career has spanned more than six decades, and in a special New Year's Eve celebration, she will bring her act to Las Vegas.
An Evening with Debbie Reynolds New Year's Eve and Dinner Show begins at 8 p.m. Monday in the Grand Ballroom at South Point and will feature a four-course meal, open bar, live music, dancing and a champagne toast at midnight.
Reynolds will take the stage at 10:30 p.m. in a concert that will feature her nightclub act, an amalgamation of dialects, music and impressions.
"This will be my 60th New Year's Eve celebration in Las Vegas," Reynolds said. "We've added a few new numbers to the show, and I've added a Paris Hilton impression. I know Paris, and she's so much like her great aunt, who is Zsa Zsa Gabor. It's all done in good fun, and it's very funny. It's going to be a great show."
John Collison, Director of Entertainment at the South Point, said that it's very rare for people to have the opportunity to see a performer of Reynolds caliber live.
"Debbie Reynolds is an icon of the stage and screen," Collison said. "Her witty, funny and sophisticated act appeals to the exact demographic that we wanted to target for our New Year's Eve Ball, and we're very excited to have her on board."
Las Vegas resident Tammy Banks said she has been a Reynolds fan since the mid-'60s and is very excited at the prospect of ringing in the New Year with the star.
"I love her voice, I love her comedy," Banks said. "I think it would be a lot of fun to go with my husband and indulge in a formal evening of dancing and food and entertainment."
According to Tom Mikovits, director of marketing, this four-course gala event promises to be a most memorable New Year celebration for everyone.
"This will be a formal ball," Mikovits said. "While there's no formal dress code, we do ask that gentlemen wear suits or tuxedos and ladies dress to the nines. We want this to be an evening to remember."
The evening's menu will include jumbo cocktail shrimp, traditional Caesar salad, filet and lobster and a special chocolate-themed desert.
There also will be dancing throughout the evening with the night's festivities culminating in raised glasses and a new year's toast given by Reynolds.
"There will be party favors on hand, and we expect this evening to be nothing short of spectacular." Mikovits said.
Tickets for the dinner show are $140 and can be purchased online at www.southpointcasino.com or at the hotel box office. For information, call 797-8055.
