Sharing a love of reading
Popular children's author Avi visits Henderson

Award-winning children's book author Avi made several appearances in Henderson late last month to celebrate reading and promote youth literacy by sharing with students his experience as a writer.

In conjunction with the youth literacy program APPLE Partnership, Avi met with elementary, junior high and high school students Jan. 26, and was interviewed Jan. 27 by local author Robyn Carr before a crowd at the Henderson Convention Center.

Safe helps gamblers take home winnings
Key to device is kept at home so that owner doesn't spend earnings

Quitting while you're ahead is easier said than done for many people when gambling in casinos. But Green Valley resident Steve Bisyak aims to help people succeed in doing just that, using his latest invention.

Late last year, Bisyak began selling the "Bettor Safe ... Than Sorry," a pocket-size safe that allows gamblers to stash their earnings.
