Daniel D. Torkelson, 15, a sophomore at Advanced Technologies Academy, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.

Torkelson is a member of Troop 562, his eagle project was painting two storage sheds and repairing, repainting and constructing a new deck on a two-story playhouse at the Ronald McDonald House.

His Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held Jan. 6 at Canyon Ridge Christian Church.

He is the son of Dean and Maureen Torkelson of Las Vegas.

Lana J. Moore, a student at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, made the dean's list and attained gold star recognition for the Fall 2006 semester.

Gold Stars are awarded to dean's list students with a grade point ratio of 3.7 or higher.

Moore is a 2005 graduate of the International Baccalaureate Academy program at Valley High School.

She is the daughter of Lawrence and Barbara Moore of Las Vegas.

Andrea and Cassandra Dilibero won first and second place, respectively, in the Youth 10 women's foil fencing division at the U.S. Fencing Association South Coast Invitational held in Los Alamitos, Calif., in January.

The twin sisters are students at Challenger School in Las Vegas, and are taught by coach Susan Jenning at the Fencing Academy of Nevada.

Joseph D. Rodgers of Las Vegas has been promoted to the rank of sergeant in the Nevada Army Reserve National Guard.

Rodgers is assigned to the 1st Squadron 221st Cavalry, Nevada ARNG, based out of Las Vegas.

He is currently attached to the Wisconsin ARNG's 1st Battalion 121st Field Artillery, stationed in Kuwait, where he takes part in convoy security escort missions.

Rodgers' wife, Jessie, lives in Las Vegas.

Kelly Hirsch, daughter of Stephen and Susan Hirsch of Las Vegas, has been named to the dean's list of Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn., for academic achievement during the fall semester of the 2006-2007 year.

Students must achieve a grade point average of at least 3.7 to qualify for the college's dean's list.
