BASKETBALL

Durango YMCA plans youth program

Boys and girls ages 3-5 and their parents are invited to sign up for Itty Bitty Basketball at the Durango Hills Community Center YMCA, 3521 N. Durango Drive.

The program will be held from 5 to 5:45 p.m. Fridays starting this week. Parent participation is required.

CHEERLEADING

Academy offered at Heinrich YMCA

Youth ages 7-15 are invited to register for the Heinrich YMCA's cheer academy, held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane.

The cost is $57 for members or $67 for nonmembers. Uniforms are included.

Memorial tournament to benefit Shade Tree

The first Ernest "Sly" Smith Memorial Golf Tournament will be held to benefit the Shade Tree Shelter and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at noon Monday at Highland Falls Golf Course in Sun City Summerlin.

Tiny Tots registration under way at YMCA

Registration is being conducted for Tiny Tots gymnastics at the Durango Hills YMCA, 3521 N. Durango Drive.

Boys and girls ages 3-5 are invited to participate. Sessions will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

RTC speeds up transportation to LVMS

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is providing transportation service to and from the NASCAR event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 9-11.

Fans planning to take transit to the event are encouraged to purchase a NASCAR Fast Pass, which allows unlimited travel on all Citizens Area Transit, Metropolitan Area Express and Deuce routes. For more information, visit www.rtcsnv.com.

Vegas Grand Prix tickets on sale now

The Vegas Grand Prix is set for April 6-8 and kicks off the 2007 Champ Car World Series.

Tickets are available at www.vegasgrandprix.com or by calling (877) 795-7223. While admission to the event site is free, tickets will be required to access the seating areas, view video monitors of live racing action and enjoy daytime concerts.

The race will feature open wheel cars that can reach speeds of up to 190 mph. The cars will run on a specially constructed, 2.4-mile course through downtown Las Vegas, accessing Ogden Avenue, Main Street, Casino Center Boulevard and Carson Avenue.

Promoters expect the event to attract thousands of residents and tourists to downtown and garner international attention. In addition, the event is expected to generate millions of dollars for the local economy, including state and local tax revenues.

SOCCER

Players needed for city spring youth league

The Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services invites boys and girls ages 3-14 to participate in spring Saturday soccer leagues that begin March 3 at Brinley Community School, which is located at 6150 Smoke Ranch Road.

The cost is $35 for ages 3-4, $45 for ages 5-6, and $65 for ages 7-14.

Volunteer coaches also are needed. Registration can be conducted until the league is full.

Itty Bitty indoor program set to start
