Poundstone, Clark on stage at Railhead

Comedian Paula Poundstone will perform at 8 p.m. today at The Railhead at Boulder Station.

Poundstone has had great success as a stand-up comedian on the talk show circuit. She has created several HBO specials, including "Paula Poundstone Goes to Harvard," and served as a correspondent for both the "Tonight Show" and the "Rosie O'Donnell Show."

Tickets range from $22.50 to $37.50, plus tax.

On Saturday, the Railhead welcomes country singer Terri Clark at 8 p.m.

Clark has sold 4 million albums and has had nearly a dozen top-10 hits, including "Girls Lie Too" and "I Just Wanna Be Mad."

Tickets range from $27.50 to $49.95, plus tax.

Events mark Black History Month

A PATCH OF BLUE'

Film legend Sidney Poitier stars in a movie set to be shown at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive, in celebration of Black History Month.

"A Patch of Blue" will be screened at 7 p.m. today.

SOULFUL NIGHT OUT

A celebration featuring soul food and a historic black film will be hosted by the Clark County Parks and Recreation Department from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Cambridge Recreation Center, 3930 Cambridge St.

Special guest singer and pianist Ron "Ellington" Shy will perform.

Tickets are $5 for adults ages 18 and older, $2 for ages 17 and under, and free for children ages 5 and under.

Admission covers a catered dinner, including smothered chicken, three side dishes, corn bread, beverages, dessert and music.

GOSPEL FEST

The Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road, is hosting Gospel Fest from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday in celebration of Black History Month. Doors open at 5 p.m.

The event is free, but a ticket is required because of limited space.

ANCESTRAL RHYTHMS

A Black History Month concert "Introduction to Africa" featuring Dele Adefemi, will be at 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive.

This free performance is a midsession recital that will feature drumming, rhythms and a cultural variety show.

Fashion show at Galleria; UNLV hosts Broadway spoof

The Galleria at Sunset mall is celebrating a day of fashion on Saturday.

The mall will host the Green Valley Chapter of the National Charity League's annual fashion show. NCL members will be raising money for charities they support while modeling the hottest spring trends and apparel from Galleria at Sunset mall stores. Shows are at noon and 2 p.m. at the food court.

Macy's also will hold a model search from 1 to 4 p.m. in the lower level of the Macy's court. High school students can audition for a chance to participate in a March fashion show, featuring Macy's prom wear. Macy's also will collect gently used prom dresses to donate to the Southern Nevada Prom Closet.

'FORBIDDEN BROADWAY'

"Forbidden Broadway's 25th Anniversary Celebration" will be performed at 8 p.m. Saturday at Artemus Ham Hall at UNLV.

The latest installment in the "Forbidden Broadway" series spoofs "Avenue Q," "The Producers," "Mamma Mia!" and "The Lion King," and pokes fun at Ethel Merman, Liza Minnelli and Sarah Brightman.

Tickets are $40, $55 and $85 and can be purchased at the UNLV Performing Arts Box office or by visiting pac.unlv.edu.
